Low Miles - 1980 Porsche 911 Super Carrera with Targa Convertible Top Selling this 911SC because my wife needs a new car, and one of the toys has to go. Contact Bruce at brunoalias@gmail.com or (319)210-1993 for questions before bidding. What it has: · 100% stock, car fitted with turbo fuchs wheels · Very limited run. 911SC’s are expected to be the fastest appreciating 911’s as the earlier 911’s have increased too rapidly. 1 of 4,831 SC’s produced in 1980. · Clean interior, no rips in the seats. Top of dashboard usually cracks due to sun damage, but the top of this dash does not have cracks. · Lots of clutch left, shifts strong, engine pulls just like new · 59,XXX original miles. For a 31 year old classic, this car has been driven on average 1,900 miles per year. · Very mechanically sound. Professional service records an inch thick. Thousands of dollars invested in keeping this SC running in new condition. Recently had the entire electrical system gone through, including replacement of the MSD ignition and cold start valve ($1,500 of repairs). Would drive this car across country with no concerns. Recently inspected at Lujack’s Porsche. · Body is straight and true, no accidents. · Car is very light and fast, weighs less than 2800 lbs with horsepower of 180@5500 and torque of 244@4200, compression at 9.3:1 What it needs: · Paint is 100% original, but has rock chips and has been touched up professionally. Previous owner had scratched the hood (dropped a rake). This was touched up, but can be seen in the pictures underneath the passenger wiper. If I were keeping, I think it’s time for a repaint, but looks great from 10 feet. · Cosmetically, Targa top has tears, needs to be repaired or refinished. · Leather on the steering wheel is beginning to crack due to sun, but I did just have it professionally re-laced by a Porsche restorer. · Two rock chips in the window (both have been repaired) Value: · Original MSRP: $29,150 · NADA as of 09/06/10, $18,500 (low retail) – $27,900 (high retail) · Excellence Magazine, a magazine about Porsches, shows the value of an 80 911SC (based on actual cars sold) increasing 34.4% from 2003-2009 ($18,075 to $24,300). Writing this makes me not want to sell it all the sudden… · Car reserve is priced thousands below low NADA What they say about the 911 SC The 911SC is faithful to tradition. It is the fastest normally aspirated Porsche, 0-60, that we have ever driven. While all this strum and drang is slowly being fed through your mental computer, you must also come to grips with the information that it gets 27 MPG in the highway test. It is thus terribly fast and surprising economical. A remarkable blending of opposing virtues. - Car and Driver, 1978 The 1974–89 911s offer strong value because they are nice, reliable, and affordable Porsches that can still be used as everyday cars. The 911 SC, which followed the 2.7, is thought by many to be one of the best 911s built. When the 3.0-liter SC engine was introduced in 1978, mechanics hailed it as a big step forward. There had been a variety of troubling and costly repairs with the 2.7-liter powerplants. Because the newer engine solved so many problems, the 3.0-liter 911 SCs carry a substantial premium over earlier cars. This could make a 2.7-liter 911 a tempting purchase, but buyers can’t fix much of what can go wrong with the money they save. The 2.7-liter 911 is still a fine car and many owners have enjoyed them without problems for years. However, that is not the case with most owners. If you are a prospective buyer for one of these cars, you should consider how much more reliable the 3.0-liter engine is. I know of one SC that has logged over 450,000 miles without any major engine work. - Excellence Magazine, 2010 Riding shotgun in a raging, spitting, hair-trigger 911SC is just about the most awful and impossible way there is to remain passive. This 911SC, this thing, could draw screams from the pope. Confronted with streaming, onrushing impedimenta, even the most stolid passengers collapse into beyond-the-pale-of-reason seizures of fright. ‘This is like a roller coaster,’ they whimper. ‘I hate roller coasters.’ But the 911SC is addictive. - Car and Driver, 1980
