Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is our 1946 DeSoto S-11 deluxe in excellent running and driving condition. I have owned it for about 3 years and driven it quite often without any bit of trouble. The car has spent it's whole life in Connecticut. I have the full history and past registrations of every owner since new along with the original owners manuals that came with the car. The car has taken us on many trips in comfort and reliability. In the 3 years I have had it I have driven it to Lake George, NY., Bennington, VT., Newport, RI.,New York city, and everywhere around CT. The MoPar heat works amazing which has allowed me to drive it all year round when the roads are clear. The overall condition of the vehicle is rather good. The paint has wear, scratches, and dings but no major dents. There is some rust around some of the trim but no holes. The rocker sills underneath the car have some rust but it is not visible and has stopped. All of the floors are original and solid as is everywhere else. There does not seem to be any body filler anywhere on the car or any metal welded in anywhere. The paint looks to have been painted once in the late 50's. It has had some touch up on the passenger door. The base of the doors are very solid. The interior is all original with the back seats and carpets being near perfect. The door panels are in decent shape but the drivers side panel has a section torn out of it. The base of the driver seat has split open from the sun drying out the center of it. I always had it covered by a vintage blanket but wished to show it in the pictures. The original headliner is still in the car but is being held up with wood strips that look quite nice. The dash still has the wood effect looking great as is the chrome and steering wheel. Everything but the radio, clock, and the temp gauge are working. The brakes, exhaust, and shocks are all recent items done to the car. It has 4 good tires with 75% life left. The tires are 8.20 x 15 which made it great for highway cruising. It has been equipped(possibly since the 40's)with period correct and functioning turn signals. All of the windows are intact and working with no cracks. The car is the straight flathead 6 cylinder motor which sounds and runs great. It smokes on deceleration once in a while when driving on the highway for a bit. The fluid drive transmission is equipped with the tip-toe shifting in great working order. It does have a clutch with hi and lo in the 2 gears and reverse. The car is still 6 volt and charges properly, cools properly, and has good oil pressure. I have purchased a servicable oil cartridge unit off of another 46' so I could keep the oil cleaner. I have not installed it yet but it will come with the car. I have pulled down the oil pan and cleaned out any sludge and replaced the oil pan gasket. There is a small oil leak which all my older cars seem to do. The pictures should answer the rest of your questions about the condition. Please contact me to view the car if possible, the auction is to sell the car and if you are the winning bidder you are the new owner. I do follow all rules and regulations of ebay as should the buyer. I do have some other vehicles for sale so be sure to check my other auctions or inquire about other vehicles.
