Vehicle Detail
Own a piece of American military history. It has only 8000 original miles, and has never been registered for public roads. One of the last closed cabs to be made before the country ran short on metal,... thus surviving the weather elements. It has a Chev 235 six that was used in pick up trucks until 1962, so engine parts are readily available inexpensively from Napa Auto. This truck left Oakland in Nov. 1942 and was put in secret service in N. Cal. watching out for "balloon bombs." In the 60's it was sold as surplus and outfitted with a 300 gallon water tank, Wisconsin V-4 35 hp air-cooled engine to run a Royal Bean water pump with 5 Bean nozzles. It has since been converted to 12V. It set out in a farm until the 90's when it was purchased by a collector who rebuilt the brakes, carburetor etc. The water pump, starter were later rebuilt to be fully reliable. A modern single nozzle water pump was recently added. It starts right up with a pull, and shoots a 25 ft. stream. Sirens and alternating blinking and swivel spot lights all work well. It is in collector's operational condition, (i.e., parade and road ready but not in museum or show condition.) It's an extreme 4 x 4. With a transverse case (2 x) 4 speed plus reverse, it can climb any hill you have in first gear! There were over half a million of these trucks made, but hardly any returned. This one never left. We won the war with this truck, just like the ones seen in the movie Saving Private Ryan. You've seen Dodges, but not often one a Chevy like this. Subject to local sale or trade and may end auction early.
