Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Oldsmobile, 1972, Delta 88 Royale Convertible. One of 3900 made this year. This is a two owner vehicle, which was purchased new at Congressional Oldsmobile in Rockville Maryland, and has been in the state of Maryland it’s entire life. Always garaged and pampered, the odometer reads 85,700 and that is the correct mileage. This is probably one of the nicest original 1972 Delta 88 convertibles you would ever find. Check out additional photos at: http://familyandcars.shutterfly.com/pictures Vehicle Statistics. Car is equipped with the optional 455 4BBL V-8 and Turbo 400 transmission (original numbers matching 455). In addition, Power brakes (Disc on front), Power Steering, Air Conditioning (converted to 134 and operational, blows cold), Power Windows, Power Top, AM-FM 8-track radio, clock, Speed Minder and trip odometer are all present on this vehicle. Everything listed above operates exactly as it should (with the exception of the radio, one speaker works intermitantly). Mechanical Condition: This 88 convertible starts with 2 pumps of the accelerator and a turn of the key. Blows no smoke upon start-up. No abnormal engine noises are present. Oil pressure at 60 PSI at start-up. Transmission shifts smoothly through all forward gears and reverse. No fluid leaks. Brakes require little effort, stops straight with no vibrations. Top mechanism works as it should and easily goes down and up. Turn signals and lights all working properly. Tires are Michelins and have 75%+ of their tread remaining. Although the single exhaust system was fine, I had a set of duals installed. The mechanic who did the job was meticulous about matching what would have been factory dual exhaust. Take note of the picture of how he cut the tailpipe ends! Also picked mufflers that sound great, but are not obnoxious. Other work done since I acquired the car includes New timing chain and gears (precaution only since motor had the original equipment still in place), fuel pump, correctly restored carburetor ($415), cooling fan clutch, water pump, spark plugs, plug wires, rear shocks, thermostat, and valve cover gaskets. I also added a GM factory sway bar (off of a mid 70's Caprice) to the rear suspension. In addition I acquired the VERY RARE Ralley IV wheels which are on the car and look fantastic! The original hubcaps go with the car. Condition of Top: Clean with no tears or blemishes. Glass rear window. Top frame in excellent condition. Mechanism works flawlessly to lower or raise the top. Original Boot is in very good condition, and is in original boot bag. Interior: The interior of this car is beautiful. No tears in the upholstery, door panels are excellent, carpet is excellent, dashboard is excellent with no cracks. The steering wheel is also excellent with no cracks. All the glass on the car is in excellent condition. Body: Very straight, and all body panels are believed to be original. Car has had one repaint (was done many years ago). It is an “average” paint job, but still shows well. There are areas of over spray that could be cleaned up a bit. The is some rust coming through on the drivers quarter panel, about the size of a silver dollar, just in front of the wheel. There is evidence of rust repair above the wheel well on the same quarter panel. Was filled at one time with bondo, a couple of small bubbles starting to return, but hardly noticeable from 5 feet away. There is also evidence of some minor previous body work on the drivers front fender along the body side molding, and on the drivers door. Also very minor, but sanding marks do show upon close inspection. A few other blemishes here and there, but a good 10-15 footer for sure…. Bumper chrome is very nice and bumpers are straight. Headlights and taillights have some pitting in the chrome. Underside. Floors look very solid from underneath. No evidence of any rust through. Frame is solid with some minor scaling in a few areas, nothing to be concerned about. Trunk floor is excellent, original trunk pad is in great shape. All spatter paint looks original. Documentation. This vehicle has all original glove box docs including the protecto plate. Order Sheet as shown in picture, along with years of vehicle registrations, and other factory docs included. Best of all the original owner kept a small booklet of all maintenance he did on the car since new, which also documents the mileage over the years. Parts included: New convertible top, New top rear glass, Used fiberglass front panel (hard to find so acquired just in case), used POSI rear end (up to you if you want to bother with it, but rare for a full size Olds), 4 original steel wheels that came with the car, brand new centerlink, Blasted and powder coated Upper control arms, spindles, and brake dust sheilds, and other misc items (see pictures on link provided above)… Please feel free to ask any questions about the car, I’ll be happy to answer them. Please check out the picture on the link below. This vehicle is 39 years old, so there are no warranties either expressed or implied. That said, you could probably drive this car anywhere with confidence. I purchased the vehicle about 3 years ago. Kids about ready to start college so my priorities have shifted. Deposit due within 72 hours of auction close. I am flexible on pick up, but would want the sale completed within 2-3 weeks if possible. The car is listed for sale locally so I reserve the right to end this auction at any time. On Aug-26-11 at 04:53:53 PDT, seller added the following information: Some other work I have done on this car and forgot to mention. All hoses and belts were replaced. New voltage regulator. I had the complete air cleaner bead blasted and powder coated, along with the radiator top plate.
