Vehicle Detail

HISTORY: This 1979 Karmann Volkswagen Convertible has been much loved by its one and only owner. This is a Colorado car, purchased October 6, 1979 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. It has never left the state. It was always garaged, especially in Winter when the car was not driven. It is a 'non-smokers' car. EXTERIOR: The air vents on the engine lid have chrome accents. The front fenders, door edges and the handle cups in both doors also have chrome accents . The tailpipe has a chrome extension. There is a classic VW car club badge on the engine lid. The black convertible top is original, and includes the boot cover. There is a 1" separation in the vinyl at the lower right center of the top. (see pictures) The original lug wrench and jack is present. The silver paint is original, with minor dings associated with 57,562 miles. There are two very light rust spots below the headlight rings. (see pictures). The windshield wipers are original new Bosch blades. EXTRAS: The wheels on the car are aftermarket. The five original wheels have been retained and are included in the price. The original wheels have less than 100 miles on them after being refinished to factory standards, and mounted with Firestone white wall tires. The spare wheel is an original factory wheel. All nine wheels have been balanced, and lug nuts torqued to factory specifications. The headlights have been updated with Bosch Halogen lights. The original headlights have been retained and are included. The car is equipped with Bosch driving lights, with protective covers over the lens. A toggle switch controls them. This is a beautiful car and a thrill to drive. It always attracts 'thumbs up' signals and gathers much attention when parked. INTERIOR: All instruments work as intended. The original steering wheel has a genuine leather cover. A custom dash cover protects the dash from harsh sunlight. The radio is a German upgraded Blaupunkt stereo, with tape cassette and Dolby AM-FM. It plays beautifully. The right visor has a small 'vanity' mirror. The shift knob is polished wood with the Wolfsburg insignia. The car has custom floor mats, front and back. The front seats have genuine sheepskin seat covers, cool in Summer and warm on cooler days. ENGINE: It is a 1585cc flat-4 Boxer engine, with Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection. The car was not driven for several years, so the engine was brought up to manufacturer's standards. This work included new push rod tubes and seals, valve adjustments and valve cover gaskets, and a brand new fuel tank. It has a new fuel filter, new battery, new fuel sender, and two oil back-to-back oil changes and filters, and BG fuel additive. There is a new heater hose, and new fuel lines. The L Jet Tronic double relay for fuel pump and fuel injection control is replaced. Dwell and ignition timing is correctly set. The engine and compartment have been cleaned. The car has passed the very stringent State of Colorado Emissions Control. The readings on the report indicate an engine that is clean and strong. Copy of this report can be provided. MANUALS AND INSPECTIONS: It has a current State of Colorado Vehicle Inspection Report. The Title is clear. The VIN is 1592034876. The car is fully insured, which terminates upon transfer. The Warranty and Maintenance book shows inspections up to the 15,000 mile mark. The inspections for 22,500 miles, 37,500 miles, and 52,500 miles were done but not recorded. The 1979 Volkswagen Owner's Manual is present, as is the Owner's Manual for the Blaupunkt radio. Also included are seven books that are dedicated to the Volkswagen, and we feel the books should go with the car. APPRAISAL: The car was appraised on April 15, 2011 by the Auto Appraisal Network for $15,500. It contains many details and numerous photographs. The link to it is: http://www.autoappraisalnetwork.com/reports/1979_volkswagen_beetle.pdf LOCATION AND CONTACT: The car is located in Denver, Colorado and may be seen by appointment.
