The Jaguar Mark IX (pronounced mark nine) is a large luxury saloon that was produced by Jaguar Cars between 1959 and 1961. It epitomized Jaguar’s motto Grace, Space and Pace. It has luxury appointments rivaling Rolls but with more performance at a lower price.
Internally, it has an enlarged-bore 3.8 L (231 in³), 220 bhp dual overhead cam straight six cylinder engine. It is fitted with two SU carburetors. There are four-wheel servo assisted Dunlop disc brakes and recirculating ball power steering. The suspension has torsion bar independent front suspension and a leaf sprung rear live axle. The interior is leather, burled walnut wood trim and deep pile carpet.
A green example was featured prominently in the Alfred Hitchcock film Vertigo.
The Mark IX has power and good brakes for a vehicle of this era, this together with its impressive appearance makes it quite a common choice for classic car circuit racing.
Produced from 1959-1961 only 10,000 Mark IX’s were made.
When we acquired our 1960 Mark IX the previous owner stated that the engine had been rebuilt in 2008. We just recently cleaned the fuel tank, flushed the fuel lines and replaced the fuel filter.
There is some rust on the lower portion of the doors. A scratch can be seen on the trunk lid. A minor dent can be seen on the driver’s front fender above the turn signal and on the passenger side below the turn signal. The bumper has minor damage as well as a small amount of pitting. The dash has a small opening where a switch was located and the wood is passable but needs a refinishing. There is a stain on the headliner. The seats and carpet are in good condition.
