The 1971 Mustang Mach 1 is an iconic model like those featured in films such as “Diamonds Are Forever”, “The Mechanic” and “Gone in 60 Seconds”. Ford produced 151,484 Mustangs in 1971 but only 36,499 were Mach 1. After 40 years, how many of these cars are still on the road?
Our burgundy Mach 1 started life as an ‘M’ code leaving the factory with a 351 Cleveland and a C-6 automatic. Our car now has a 1972 big block 429 engine with Ford power parts anodized headers, 2.5 inch exhaust with balance tube, Flow master three chamber mufflers and Magna Flow exhaust tips. It has factory ordered power steering, power disc brakes front and rear spoilers and tinted windows. The wheels are aftermarket slotted mags with a lot of tread life remaining on the tires
The dash is cracked, there is a tear in the drivers seat and the factory tach isn’t working but overall the interior is in nice shape. The car has some significant rust on the rear drop off aprons. There is some surface rust in the trunk. A previous owner replaced the floor pan with a non stock pan. There is a crack in the paint on the quarter panel. Overall, the paint looks like it was never sanded after application and there are numerous bubbles still evident in the finish. Please see the photographs that detail these areas.
We purchased this car in 2007with the intention of restoring the vehicle but have moved onto other projects. The car runs okay but it has not been driven in four years (other than to reposition it on the lot). The car will not shut off with the ignition switch so the coil must be disconnected to stop the engine until you correct the problem.
We DO NOT recommend driving the vehicle home and suggest a full mechanical inspection before taking it on the open road.
It won't take much for you to bring this car back to it's original glory!
