Vehicle Detail
TWO VIDEO's PART 1 & 2, Scroll below to obtain all the written details of the car!! I'm selling my 2003 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0 because I'm moving early next year (Jan/Feb) and will be needing a truck instead. This is a great car, runs well and is extremely clean inside and pretty good on outside for a car of it's tenure. There are few small scratches and dings as it's a city car here in Houston area (see the pictures and videos for details), but I love this car and wouldn't sell it if I didn't have to! I bought it for back in 2005 with just over 30,000 miles on it and it's been a fantastic reliable commuter car ever since. It get's great gas mileage (around 28 MPG's combined city and highway miles, over 30 MPG highway), and has VERY few issues like other VW's I've seen. I would keep this car for another 2 - 3 yrs if I was going to be living here and probably could put another 80-100k miles on it without any problems. This car has been well taken care of , most of the mileage came during a three year period where I commuted 90 miles a day. Only up to a few months back, the only people to do any work on it was a local car shop I take it to religiously and the oil has been changed regularly (only used synthetic oil & filters since purchase). Now that it's got around 135,000 I've spent some money fixing any potential future issues to assure it will continue as a great commuter car or would be an ideal car for your teenager/college student (it has every airbag known to man...). Here is what I've done to the car in the last 30 days: 1. Replaced original alternator with brand new one. (battery was periodically getting corrosion and I felt alternator would potentially be cause, if not I wanted no issues for the next 3 years so I proactively changed it. Cost $275) 2. Replaced battery with a new one. (Cost $110). 3. Replace headliner. Old one was drooping, and just had a new one installed (Cost $215) 3. Replace temperature sensor. Had light come on, and just replaced it ($65) 4. Replaced all the fuses in the car, including those in the battery case (which cost $6.95 each) total cost ($55) 5. Replaced the stock VW radio with a Kenwood KDC-148 radio with front aux. I wanted a radio that allowed me to take MP3's or connect my cell phone to it and it is detachable. (Cost $275 with install). 6. New wind wipers. (Cost $17). 7. Replace front left headlight (Cost $18) I was going to keep the car prior to my move, and I wanted it to look like new. One of the items I replaced was the upholstery on all the seats from cloth to a synthetic leather, which is made of vinyl. The vinyl provides more longevity than leather due to fact it stretches better and doesn't crack in high heat as leather can over time. The seats also included addition foam and lumbar support. So they are very firm and truly provides a "new car" feel to it. I did this six months ago and it cost me $1200.00. At the time I did not project a move so I felt it was a great investment for the next 3 years of usage since I was not having a car payment. Plus it really gives this car a great presence vs. it's previous cloth look. Just some quick fyi's on the tires, they are in fair shape. Most average around year to 18 months old. Also, those are plastic hub caps on tires not rims, although they look decent. Now the issues I've had with car, as I want to provide full disclosure of what I know about the car. 1. The car does not have a spare tire. (replacement cost 40-60 dollars). Also car only has one set of keys not two. 2. The rear tire on the right has a small dent on the wheel due to a pot hole on street. Nothing major, just letting you know. 3. Initially I installed an inverter in the car which used the electricity from the "lighter" section in the front console. It ran to the trunk of the car, where I had a printer/scanner/fax I used for work since I was in real estate. Once I decided to no longer use it, I disconnected the inverter in order to not cause any issues with the car. So it's not a problem, but if you want the front lighter to work in console you need to completely disconnect the inverter and reconnect it to the lighter. I've left the inverter with the car just in case someone wants to reconnect. Otherwise it's a $30 cost to reconnect to lighter (this was the quote from the guys at Fry's electronics I got, who did the initial work). 4. The screw which you use to do oil changes (underneath car) has some wear on it because a local shop stripped it a little bit. So I have a local shop named AutoWorld in galleria area that has changed the oil religiously without issues. I also have used Walmart to have it changed as well, but some places have rejected it because they have a policy that they don't want liability if I were to claim they did the strip on the bolt. So just be aware of this, like I said I've taken it to a couple of places with no issues, but a few do reject the oil change due to liability issues. (FYI: On occasions I've changed it myself at home with no problems). 5. Due to heat, steering wheel has little bubbles and a crack on the rubber (only on top section). Nothing major, can be wrapped for less than $20. (look at pictures and video). Also, if you look at final picture there is a plastic piece missing inside the inner bumper, its a cosmetic item it isn't a functional piece (I found one on ebay for $15). 6. Finally, the car's cloth section on passenger doors have bubbled a bit, because my knee has rubbed against it over the years. The guys that did the headliner stated it was an easy fix, passenger side has a very small one too (but i don't think that one is as notable, nor needs to be fixed). Probably no more than $50 dollars to fix through the guys I used. None of the items are major, but I wanted you to know exactly what I know about the car. We Disclose our cars as much as we can, But don't forget you are bidding on a USED car.W Mileage: As of today, this is my daily driving car. It is right under 135,000, but assume around 1,000 miles a month are added as of date 08/1/11. I will try to keep information on mileage updated every two weeks if car doesn't sell quickly.
