Vehicle Detail
I have for sale a 23 window Volkswagon bus that is titled a 1957. I have checked the vin number and came up with it being built in July of 1957. I bought the bus in the late 1960's and drove it doing what young people did during those years. Than in 1970 I parked it on a remote ranch near Laramie Wyoming and there it sat with the aspen trees growing up around it. It sat there for 41 years, all but forgotten by me and the rest or the world in its own little grove of trees, tell my daughter came across it a couple of weeks ago. She noticed a tree was growing up through the bumper, She informed me that I had to do something with it. Ether restore it and drive it or sell it as it would be a shame to lose it to mister rust. So I hooked up my car hauler and grabbed my chain saw and extricated it from its grove of trees and it rolled for the first time in 41 years on to a trailer. I know that there is probably not another restorable 1957 23 window as compete as this one to be had anywhere. I have checked with an expert and he says the top is almost completely there and very restorable (I think the handle is missing and that is it). There is some rust but 90 percent of the bus is as solid as the day it was made. There were no alterations made on it. All I can see that is missing the back bumper, the VW emblem in the front, the panel that bolts on behind the engine and also the engine. If you are looking for a 1957 23 window to restore this might be one of the last to be had that is mostly complete. I do have a high reserve as I will restore it if I can not get what I think is worth to me personally. Good luck bidding. And thanks for looking. On Aug-10-11 at 22:32:44 PDT, seller added the following information: I have obtained an engine and transaxle that should be correct for this bus. I will attach pictures of the engine and transaxle. They came out of a 1958 bus. They go with the sale of the bus. Thanks TageOn Aug-11-11 at 17:23:13 PDT, seller added the following information: I applied to a duplicate title as I had lost the original , the local county has found the title and I do have to wait 10 days to receive a duplicate of the lost title. It is titled as a 1958 but according to the vin numbers of THESAMBA.COM it was made July of 1957. I had thought it was tiled as 1957 but it is titled 1958. Though by the Vin number I would still call it a 1957. Wyoming back then might have been somewhat backward in their titling department. On Aug-13-11 at 11:27:42 PDT, seller added the following information: I have had a lot of questions asking what the reserve is, so I will post it. I have it set at 25,000. This includes the rear cargo area, and engine compartment, and the nose of the bus. Most of the paint is till on the inner wheel wells. And the top. This has been sitting in a very dry cold climate and I am surprised at the condition after 41 years. I have all the pictures ebay will allow me to load. And I do have it loaded on my trailer, for the right price I will deliver it. Thanks for lookingOn Aug-18-11 at 08:22:10 PDT, seller added the following information: I will try to load more pictures of this morning some time. With a link to a picture bucket. If all works out I will post the link soon. On Aug-18-11 at 09:31:41 PDT, seller added the following information: I think I have this figured out. This is the link to the pictures http://s1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd487/tagebenson/ I have three pictures of how the bus looked before I moved it on to the trailer, and some that show the bus off some. There is a picture of the front drives side floor, there is no rust just lots of dirt. I also took picture of the bottom of bus under drivers seat. And walked around the bus taking close ups of body. There is one of under front center of the nose, the dirt that the picture shows is inside the bumper only. The nose is as solid as the day it was made. And than I have a picture of from the top front that show a paint job that only forty years of Wyoming blowing snow could produce and a reason I almost kept this bus.
