Vehicle Detail
I have a 1970 142 E for sale that is in very excellent condition. I will do my absolute best to be transparent about describing the car and providing photos that represent the car for what it is. I want to be sure I have a happy buyer. It is the cleanest 142 I have seen that was not completely restored. I bought the car 6 years ago as a 142 S without an overdrive transmission with 78,000 original miles and original windshield (seen in photo). It was a B18 car with dual Stromberg carbs. I was searching for a fuel injected car with overdrive, but I couldn't pass this one up due to it's low original mileage and cleanliness. In the first 3 years of ownership I went through the car from front to back. First I installed a fuel injected, rebuilt B20 engine with high compression E head and a new in the box IPD street cam with an overdrive transmission. During this process the car received an electronic ignition, Bosch Coil, all new wires, hoses, seals, clutch, new Skandix exhaust from front to back, gas tank, fuel pump, electric fan, cold air intake, IPD engine brace, harder motor mounts, etc. The car runs great! After the engine and drive train were complete I replaced the brakes, installed stainless steel brake lines, IPD lowering springs, Bilstein shocks, replaced many of the bushings, tie rods, Optima battery, alignment, upgraded to brighter halogen headlights, non-orange tail lights and front blinkers, powder coated Volvo 740 wheels (very light weight), new 205 50 15 Nitto Neo Gen tires, lug nuts.... I'm sure I am forgetting some things to list here. I then moved onto the interior by having the original front seats bolstered, re-foamed, and recovered in high grade black leather. The back seat was in good condition so it was cleaned up by the upholstery shop and left original. The carpet was replaced with a new carpet kit that is high quality looped carpet. The headliner and door panels (with map pocket) are original and near flawless aside from some sun fading on the back panels at the top. I replaced the original instrument cluster (seen in photo that I still have) with a GT cluster, new leather wrapped steering wheel with correct hub, Nakamichi cd player that looks reasonably period correct for a modern player and Infinity 6 x 9 speakers in the rear. The paint appears to be mostly original with some possible repaint in a couple of spots that would have been done many years ago and still has some decent shine to it. It's far from perfect, but it looks great in a vintage sort of way. I have tried to do a thorough job with my photos by taking close ups of all or most of the imperfections. A couple of the minor dings or dents are tough to see. I have zoomed in on any areas that show rust color. I am confident that any rust color is nothing more than surface rust that could be easily cleaned off or treated. I have never touched it up or treated it. Floor pans and trunk area look like new overall. The car could be easily driven daily and I would trust it being reliable on a long trip. There are a few odds and ends that could be buttoned up. These would be: It lacks a fuel pressure valve near the fuel pump so fuel pressure will remain after the car sits for a while. If it sits overnight, you have to crank it a bit longer for it to start so it can rebuild pressure. The car ALWAYS starts. The radiator leaks a small bit where the thermostat wire for the electric fan goes into the radiator hose under the clamp. I was going to re-route it but haven't taken the time to do so. The instrument cluster lights have blown the fuse and are out. I have wanted to remove the dash and take a look. It should be a simple fix as they worked fine for quite a while. The carpet kit and fire extinguisher are not screwed down...I was reluctant to drill holes everywhere and never did it. The rear deck board needs to be cut out so the speakers will let the sound through better. There may be a couple of other minor items, but these come to mind. I am selling the car because I have put less than 5,000 miles on it since I built it and it sits in the garage and doesn't get driven. The car comes with the original instrument cluster, 2 extra parts GT clusters, accessory gas can, fuel injection repair manual, extra starter, extra alternator, passenger side mirror, brake rotors, and possibly more of whatever I have laying around. Buyer will be responsible for shipping and pay pal fees. I am happy to help accommodate getting the car on a truck etc if it needs to be shipped. Please send me a message with any questions or we can exchange phone numbers to talk. Thanks for looking!
