Vehicle Detail
1975 BMW 2002 VIN 2362975 Original Color is PastellblauTan interior Odometer currently (July 2011): 92,872 (Original Miles) I purchased the car from the original owner in February of 2008 after finding it on Craigslist. At that time, the four-speed transmission was completely shot, so I found a donor from a 73 Tii on the 2002FAQ board and had it installed. This transmission shifts flawlessly with no grinding or 2nd gear crunch. The reason I was so impressed with this car was the originality. It is a rare thing to find one with its original paint and interior in such great condition. The dash is crack free, all gauges and lights work correctly, the carpet is clean and shows little wear, and the seats are clean, and comfortable. The trunk is the best I have ever seen, no rust, clean paint, no dings, nice boards and a very period correct cocoa trunk mat keeps it nice. The exterior paint isn't perfect, their is some evidence of paint work on the driver's side rear quarter panel. The paint has some minor chips, dings and discoloration, but it does shine up nice and looks great from 10 feet. The trim is good, a couple dings on the passenger doorbut nothing major. The bumpers are original, complete and shiney. There are some rust bubbles starting to form on the lower front edge of the passenger door and lower edge of the passenger front fender at the rocker. Both front lower rocker panels are showing the typical problems with every sunroof car, some rust from the sunroof drain tubes. The only other minor rust issue is just forward of thefront turn signals under the hood, some slight bubbling. I have owned a number of 2002's and this one is the best unrestored car I have owned and is definately one with least amount of rust. When I purchased the car, it was also suffering from a very tired engine. It drove around town OK with some visible smoking on downshifts, but after a round trip from San Diego toSanta Cruz picking up my oldest daughter from college, it was time for an overhaul. I pulled the head, had it checked for cracks and warpage (none), re-ground the valves, installednew rocker shafts, valve seals, and a new 292 Ireland Engineering Re-Ground Cam Shaft with oversize eccentrics. For fuel delivery, I upgraded to a Lynx manifold with a single Weber 45 DCOE Carb and used a 320i Water Neck and Coolant Bypass tube to re-route the cooling system. I also added a new fuel pump and upgraded the stock exhaust with a stainless steel exhaust system from Ireland and a shorty header from 02Again. I also upgraded to a Tii distributor and completely de-Smogged the car in the process. The car now pulls withoutstanding power and sounds great. The car had the original 13" steel wheels when I puchased it. I refurbished some 14" "Bottlecaps" from an E30 and added new Kuhmo tires and caps and installed them on the car. Thenew owner will have their choice of wheels and tires (13" steel or 14" Alloy). I also upgraded the suspension with new Heavy Duty Bilsteins and Eibach Lowering springs. The rears are installed, but the fronts struts and springs are included with the sale. I took some videos of the car starting and motor running and posted them on Youtube. Engine Start I also have a short video of the car accelerating from a standing stop.
