My father-in-law bought this BMW new in 1962 and used it to go back and forth to work. When he retired in 1987 he transferred the title into my name. The State of Michigan issued me a new title but allowed me to keep the original title which I will pass on to the winner of this auction. When I received the bike, it ran but needed engine rebuilt. I licensed it in 1989 but didn't really drive it. It hasn't been started since 1989 and has been stored in my barn. I've kicked the engine over occasionally over the years to help keep it lubed and it still turns over freely. This bike has the original title issued on July 23, 1962, the original instruction manual in good condition, original dealer-service international location manual (with a foldout map of Germany attached) in good condition, an additional instruction manual in good condition and a Cylmer service-repair-performance manual. The original tool kit is in the gas tank compartment but I have since lost or misplaced the key for it so am unable to provide a picture of the tools.The fenders, tank, headlight, tail-light, and shock housings are dent free, except for a dent on the right rear shock housing as per picture. The rear fender also has some rust as per picture. The number on the title, engine and frame all match.As you can see, my father-in-law replaced the original exhaust pipes, handle grips and petcock with others. I have the original petcock housing but it needs some inner sealing parts.This bike has never had any restoration work done on it. Some of the discoloration you can see on the paint is over-spray from other projects I've done in my barn, but it buffs out easily.On Jul-31-11 at 01:54:37 PDT, seller added the following information: Just to make sure there is no confusion I would like to add that the engine has not been rebuilt. thank you.
