Only 9,232 Mustang II’s were built in 1976. They were a smaller, lighter design than the Mustang. The Mach 1 is Ford’s performance package, in this model, mating a 302 V-8 with a 4 speed manual.
Our car is a true Mach 1 as designated by the VIN number, 6F05F201415 – the 6 is 1976, F is Dearborn assembly plant, 05 is Mach 1, and F is a 302 engine. The car is badged as “Hurst equipped”,which it is!
The prior owner indicated that the car has high compression pistons, gear drive timing, headers, Optima battery and an Edlebrock carburetor. The dual exhausts exit on the side, in front of the rear wheels.
The exterior is a Gold finish with black racing stripes. There is a stinger hood scoop and lace wheels.
There are a few paint chips that can be seen in the photos and some minor wear on the interior, typical for a 35 year old car. There is some surface rust on the underside but no perforations or holes.
Additional information:
The only power option is power steering, the drum brakes, windows and locks are manual. There is NO air conditioning. The radio is an aftermarket JVC with cassette. The headliner and seats are clean but the carpets could use a cleaning. The tires have about 70% life left. The fuel gauge, alternator etc are working as are the head and tail lights.The car was gold when we bought it and we have no knowledge of any body work. The previous ownwer stated that this was a garage kept , two owner Colorado car which may explain it's nice condition. It has a clean Colorado title but we can title in Virgionia , if you prefer. The age of the car makes it exempt from odometer reporting so the title indicates zero, the condition of the car leads us to believe that the 60,000 miles is correct. There have been some questions as to the Hurst shifter being a modification to the original transmission or that the transmission was changed . We do not know the answer to this question but have posted some additional photos of the tranny linkage to help you decide.
This car runs but has been in our collection since 2008 and is not driven except for repositioning on the lot. The car was prepped with Stabil fuel stabilizer and the battery was removed. We recommend a full mechanical inspection before driving long distances since brakes, belts and hoses are prone to failure after long periods of storage.
When this car was acquired the previous owner did not provide any documentation for the modifications or it’s maintenance.
