1997 Subaru Outback Limited with 151,500 miles. Was our family's daily driver for several years, but became a "winter beater" this year after we got another car. It really excels in the snow, and has a ton of room for weekend Home Depot trips or moving. With a strong engine, transmission, and AWD, this car would be great for the same purpose, or even a good parts car. While its certainly not a looker, with paint starting to oxidize and rust in the rear wheelwells, its got what it takes shine in the winter. Positives Engine runs strong, idles smooth (head gaskets replaced at 110,000mi, a common issue with the 2.5L) Auto Transmission strong All-Wheel Drive works great New tires, less than 1,000mi ago All glass surfaces good, power windows/locks work well Rough Spots Intermittent starting problem, particularly when cold - it's been narrowed down to the starter solenoid. Purely electrical. Suspension deserves a full overhaul - ride is pretty "floaty." Car has been sitting for a couple months, and the brakes have gotten pretty rusty. Exhaust is pretty rough - isn't loud yet, but probably will be soon. Hood latch is difficult to open - the linkage is fine all the way to the front, the rusty latch itself causes difficulties. Interior is a bit dirty Rust in rear wheelwells (pictured). Rear appears to have been repainted before we owned it (original paint has faded). Power radio antenna broke off from a tree limb.
