Vehicle Detail
1988 Dark Red Metallic Callaway Twin Turbo, #69 of 400 Ultra rare, super low mileage Callaway Corvette Twin Turbo with only 3568 original miles! One of only five known Corvettes equipped with the the sought after “100 Plus” option. Three of those cars are overseas and this is one of only two in the US. This option produces an additional 100hp over the 382hp B2K Turbo package installed by Callaway for a total of 482hp. This is 200hp more than a stock 88 Corvette! Also included is the infamous “off road” exhaust system (with stainless Megaphone tips) and the last “Big Wonder Bar” sold by Callaway. The Big Wonder Bar is still in the box (with installation instructions and documentation) and has never been installed. It is known to be “the single biggest improvement you can make” to the Twin Turbo and is no longer available. With all these options installed, this Callaway is estimated to be capable of producing 600hp! This Corvette comes with every factory option including two Targa tops (one glass and one color matched to the car), Saddle Leather interior and Bose stereo as well as the Z51 Performance Handling Package. Callaway added the magnesium Dymag wheels which still have the original Goodyear Eagle “Gatorbacks” installed and the B2K Twin Turbo option. As the car sits, it is rated a “95+ point, #1 show car” as appraised by “Daily Bread” appraiser, Gary G. Lindenmayer. Here are some other things he had to say about the car: “This is without a doubt one of the cleanest and most complete packages I have seen in many years of appraising.”… “This car has every conceivable document to accompany and confirm its rarity. The car even came with original trophies from 1988 and 1989”…” It is still wearing the original tires. All of the hang tags and manuals and factory parts manuals plus all the advertising are present.”…”This car is truly a #1 car and it is amazing. Totally clean and spotless.”… “The “magic” would be if this car was offered at one of the nationally ranked auctions. This car’s complete package is tops in appeal to any Corvette guy.”… “If offered at a super auction I would love to be there to see the final sale price. This is a truly #1 car.” Here is a description of the above photos of the car and other noteworthy items that will come with it (photos are shown in the order of the descriptions): Rear view with Dymag rims, factory Targa top, original Gatorback tires Front view with Dymag rims and factory Targa top, original Gatorback tires Rear view with glass top, original factory rims and new BFG Gforce tires Interior view Dash 100 Plus and dual turbo engine Dymag with original Goodyear Eagle “Gatorback” tire Original Goodyear Eagle showing factory molding nubs still intact Complete original leather clad Callaway Presentation Kit including Presentation kit opened up showing: Callaway manuals. Original sales and staff business cards. Keys, hub wrench, cassette tapes and more Original Window stickers GM window sticker Callaway window Sticker 100 Plus window sticker and parts breakdown 100 Plus installation manual (only one known to exist) Original hang tags and information that came in the car Trophies and plaques from the early days (1988-89) Trophy (first place) Plaques (all first place) Awards (all first place) Original 1988 Factory manual and Electrical Supplement. Original 1988 Factory Parts book from dealer where purchased (obtained when obsoleted in 1989, the parts guy was a personal friend of the owner). Brochures Original Callaway Brochures from 1988, one autographed by Reeves Callaway Original Corvette Brochure from 1988 Other original Callaway brochures Original temporary tag and temporary registration Original license plates (front and rear) Poster with Callaway information Larger Callaway poster Era magazines with articles about the Callaway Twin Turbo Personal congratulations letter from Mike Zonar for the 100 Plus kit, the only known kit with installation manual and component price breakdown in existence. Odometer reading, actual miles For any NCRS folks, these are parts that were removed to install the 100 Plus in case you wanted to return it to stock B2K. In addition I have the original factory exhaust including two unused catalytic convertors. There’s more in addition to what’s shown in the photos: A high definition scanned copy of original title (front and back on same page, looks just like the original which had to be surrendered to the state when purchased). All original owner photos of the car from day one including a “pre 100 Plus” photo taken at delivery at Chapman Chevrolet (Tempe, AZ). Original Callaway Dymag rims with original Goodyear Eagle “Gatorback” tires with exactly 3400 miles on them. These tires are not dried or cracked and still have the original molding nubs on them. They have been carefully preserved, covered and stored 4 original stock Corvette rims purchased back from Callaway and stored for 18 years (until 12/2006) with new BFG G-Force Sport tires mounted (presently on car with only 168 gentle miles on them) Original carpets (never used, a second set is in the car). Glass top (now on car, original top carefully stored in factory storage bag). New OEM battery (purchased in 2009).. Four core copper radiator upgrade from Callaway (with documentation). Performance clutch line upgrade from Callaway to replace the problematic GM line (with documentation, kept original). Original Callaway ECM prom code and 100 Plus prom code (on 5 inch floppy disc, pre 100 Plus which has larger Buick GNX injectors), this has been copied and archived on newer technology media (CD). The original gas cap with was replaced with a locking one when the car was purchased. The original cap hasn’t been on the car since 1988, and is in pristine condition. A scavenger oil pump hose upgrade kit, new serpentine belt and a few other pieces were recently purchased, but have yet to be installed. It was intended to install these when installing the Big Wonderbar. There is also an era Escort radar detector purchased by the original owner with carrying case, installation parts and owner’s manual. Last, but not least, there’s a bottle of 1987 Vintage Callaway Wine purchased when the car was new. I don’t know if it’s good or not, but it’s unopened to this day. The car has never seen rain in its entire life. The hand fabricated exhaust manifolds still have chalk writing on them from the fabricators at Callaway. All cast iron pieces are still a shiny gray. There is no rust of any kind anywhere. This car has never left Arizona and has only been out of the Phoenix valley once (to Tucson). It was purchased at Chapman Chevrolet and kept in Tempe Arizona only a few miles from the dealer until 2006 when it was moved about 10 miles to Phoenix, Arizona. An original car cover that was won at a car show around 1988/9 and stored in its original box for 18 years now covers the car. I don’t think you could find another Callaway B2K in better condition and the 100 Plus and Offroad Exhaust options are so rare, there probably isn’t another car so equipped. With such low mileage, rare options and extensive history, you will probably never see another complete package like this again.
