Vehicle Detail

This is a NO RESERVE AUCTION. High bidder gets it. I won't end the auction early, so don't ask. If you want this Jeep, place a bid. 1979 Jeep DJ-5G aka Postal Jeep / Mail Jeep. Audi 2.0 liter (121 cubic inch) four cylinder and three speed automatic transmission. Yes, the Audi engine is original to this Jeep. Like almost all Jeep DJ-5's, this Jeep is two wheel drive. Odometer reads: 39493.6. I have no idea how many miles are on the Jeep. This was to become my "winter beater / daily driver". I bought this Jeep last December. Since that time, my wife and I have both had some health issues and have both of us have recently spent time in the hospital. As a result, I have not done a lot of work to this Jeep. Right now, my project cars are not important. I won't be able to do anything with them in the foreseeable future, so I am selling them. I do have a personal automotive blog, and there is an entire page dedicated to this Jeep, and a bunch of posts about this Jeep, from the day I had it delivered home on a flat bed tow truck, to the present time. I was able to get the Jeep to start. It will idle, but I have never driven it. Between the carb needing a rebuild so the engine will run correctly, and the trans seal leak described below, I have not moved the Jeep since I got it seven months ago. Make sure to read the posts on my personal automotive blog. There is a TON of information there on this Jeep project. It's all there. All original. The engine will start, but it needs the carburetor to be rebuilt. It will start and idle after a jump start, but it does not run well. The carburetor needs to be rebuilt. I will include the Holley 5200 Series Handbook if you choose to rebuild the carb yourself. Allstate Carburetor in New York State is very familiar with this carb, and I was going to have them rebuild it, as they are very good. It needs a new battery. The one in it does not hold a charge. The transmission leaks at the shifter shaft seal. The transmission hemorrhages out the trans fluid. It is a big leak. The Jeep cannot be driven until the shifter shaft seal has been replaced and the fluid refilled to the operating level. I have a transmission gasket / seal / filter kit that will go with the Jeep. I was planning to rebuild the carburetor and replace the trans gaskets and seals, refill the transmission with transmission fluid, and then see how it drives. I have not had the chance to do that. I also have spare fuel pumps and water pumps that will go with the Jeep. I also have the factory service manual and parts manual that will go with the Jeep. The body is fairly straight. The front fenders being the most dented and show some rust blistering. The doors (all three) function as they should. The glass is good, but the windshield has a scratch from one of the wipers rubbing on it. The first picture is what the Jeep looks like now. I removed the original mirrors and the front fender mounted turn signals. I then installed new Jeep CJ style black mirrors and black hood catches. I do not have the original exterior rear view mirrors or the front turn signals. I was going to use Jeep CJ style turn signals and mount them on the grille. Overall this is a solid Jeep DJ, and worth restoring. Again, I have A TON OF PHOTOS and ADDITIONAL INFORMATION on my blog. Please read the blog before sending messages requesting information that is already covered here or in the blog. If you are truly interested in this vehicle, take a few minutes to read the Jeep Page and the Jeep Posts on my blog. See LINKS below: Jeep Page Jeep Posts This is a project. It does not drive as it sits. It will idle, but that's about it. There is no warranty expressed or implied. You will have to tow or trailer it home. Shipping is up to you. Shipping quotes are up to you as well. I have the clean title in hand. That said, it is a solid little Jeep Dispatcher, and would make a great hobby vehicle. Thanks for looking at my auction!
