Vehicle Detail
This 1950 Chrysler New Yorker/Newport is factory built on a convertible chassis, as it has a removable hard top. This basically the same body as a 1950 Town & Country Woody (but without the wood). This is the first year for the 2 door removable hard top and the last year for the straight 8. This car is in its original condition. It has the original brown paint, so it has never been bondoed. It has a fluid drive automatic transmission with a pedal clutch. The car starts right up and runs great. The transmission, clutch, and rear end works perfectly. This was originally a California car, then wound up in Texas. This would explain the exceptional shape of the body. The car was last licensed in 1982, and basically has not been driven since 1983. After I got the car I cleaned out the gas tank, replaced some of the rubber lines, and cleaned the carb. When I started the car, I ran it for approximately 2 hours. It ran perfect, never ran hot, and didn't miss or leak any fluids. Due to the fact that car has hardly been moved since 1983, the brakes are not working. The emergency brake does work though. The brakes might need to be bled but, I think the problem may be more than that. I do have the new brake lines for it. The charging system works fine. It has a 6 volt system. There are no rust holes in any of the floor pans or on the trunk pan. From the underside they look perfect. All of the glass is in good shape, with no chips, cracks or scratches (glass is clear). All of the windows roll up and down. All of the lights appear to work correctly. The original jack and spare tire are present. Considering the age of the car, the interior is in good shape. There are some water stains (I can't say why, I can only assume they may have left the windows partially down to let some of the heat out). I believe the water stains could easily be fixed by cleaning the fabric first or if you have to slightly dye it to another shade. I have done this before with great success. The headliner is complete with no rips or tears . The radio lights up but, has no sound. I think the Texas heat may have cooked the speakers, as it did the leather dash and steering wheel. I do have an original N.O.S. steering wheel that is in great shape, also lots of other N.O.S. exterior chrome, interior window cranks and other misc. parts for the car (shown in the pictures). I also have a really cool cigarette case that I found in the glove box with a 1950 Chrysler New Yorker on the front, that looks brand new. Although I don't know when it was made. Don't pay attention to the description in the front window. They made a mistake when they wrote the mileage down. It's not 43,000 it is 34,000 miles on odometer.
