THE SUSPENSION IS TIGHT, JUST LIKE NEW, AND THIS 308 IS VERY RESPONSIVE AND FUN TO DRIVE. THE FERRARI DINO 308 GT4 In November of 1973 the Ferrari Dino 308 GT4 was debuted at the Paris Motor Show. This car featured angular lines that were totally different from its curvy sibling, the Dino 246. The styling was incredibly unique and controversial for its time, and some journalists even compared it to the Bertone-designed Lamborghini Urraco and the Lancia Stratos. The Ferrari 308 was immediately a success. The vehicles performance, handling, and styling were phenomenal. The Ferrari 308 GT4, or Gran Tourismo 4-cam, was a mid-engined 3-liter V8-powered 2+2. The whole engine and car were entirely made by Ferrari. A truly groundbreaking model, the 308 GT4 2+2 was an exciting achievement for Ferrari. The 308 GT4 was produced until 1980. A total of 2,826 vehicles were produced during its production run. The 308 GT4 was sold with 'Dino' badging until May of 1976 when the 308 GT4 received the 'Prancing Horse' badge, replacing the Dino badges on the steering wheel, hood and wheels. It was the first production Ferrari that featured the mid-engined V8 layout that would lead the way for the history of the company for succeeding decades. This was the first V8 that Ferrari had ever been put into a road car, and it was a peppy engine. The Ferrari 308 GT4 handled ‘like a dream car', and was popular as a car for racers who wanted to race a Ferrari. This was also the first production Ferrari that featured Bertone bodywork instead of Pininfarina. Bertone is known best as the company that designed many of Lamborghini's cars. This caused some dissatisfaction by Pininfarina who lost out to his cross-town rival for the design. The chassis of the 308 GT4 was based on the Dino 246 but it was lengthened to make more room for a second row of seats. The Ferrari 308 GT4 measured a total length of 170.1 inches and featured a wheelbase of 100.4 inches. Its overall weight was 2,535 lbs, had a height of 46.5 inches and a width of 70.9 inches. The V8 was mounted transversely and the suspension was fully independent. Producing 230 hp in the American version, the V8 engine was integrally joined with the gearbox and had an alloy block and heads with a dual overhead camshaft. The induction system utilized 4 Weber 40 DCNF carbs. The Ferrari 308 GT4 is now becoming a true collector item, featuring a very edgy design that has aged well over the years. THIS BEAUTIFUL VINTAGE ITALIAN SPORTS CAR RUNS AND DRIVES LIKE NEW! This Ferrari is 32 years old, so some minor signs of age are to be expected! Let me first say that this Ferrari appears to be in excellent original condition. This 308 has the patina as one would expect for a well loved and respected 67,700 mile Ferrari, but does appear to have one quality repaint. Most of the interior appears to be excellent factory original. The passenger seat has a split seam, that is very easy and inexpensive to have repaired. The exterior is very striking in its black finish! The bumpers show a bit of age, but are very easy to refinish. The paint has an excellent shine and there are a few paint touchups. There are several small indentations that can easily be removed by a paintless dent remover, as well as a larger one on the right rear corner. The cover for the engine doesn’t latch and the stay for the trunk lid is broken. The clutch works fine as is, but a mechanic advised that it would be better with a simple free play adjustment. A mechanic advised that the calipers need service, but I am unaware of why as everything operates fine. The left headlamp diode needs to be replaced, also a very minor thing. Lastly, there is a rarely heard clunking noise from under the console area that occurs only when the clutch is not released properly. It sounds like a vibration and should be rather easy to isolate and cure. It has never been a problem as far as driving the car, and again is rarely experienced. Most everything under the hood, the interior, trunk and exterior appear to be stock original components that have been very well maintained!
