1960 Volkswagen Single Cab pickup truck. 1385cc single port engine. Recently purchased last December to restore. Due to spinal issues, I can barely drive it for more than a few miles without severe pain and need to pass it on to somebody who will drive it more often. Good solid base to do a full resto or a reliable, fun daily driver or work truck w/ little work. I’ve driven it about 1200 miles with few issues over 7 months since purchase. Front end needs new bushings and re-lubed throughout. Previous owner has reciepts from early 2008 noting front end needed attention and the last time anything was maintained. Front brakes need attention. Gas tank should be replaced due to small crack at the base of the filler neck. It leaks fuel turning corners if it’s filled more than 6-7 gallons. Previous owner sealed and painted wheel wells and the outsides of the main chassis frame. Everything else underneath has light to medium surface rust throughout. No rot or rust through. All beams and doglegs are solid. The only rot is in the back of the treasure chest floor, underneath the gas tank. The treasure chest was painted with POR-15. I have a reciept from 6/8/2004 for a $700 Maaco paint job. The body has light damage throughout. Most dents are small and shallow. The rear corner vents, drivers side, are ugly and would be easier to cut out and replace. Passenger side vents are near flawless. Treasure chest door is in great condition. Rear decklid needs some help. The front 3/4 of the roof is perfect as well as the entire rain gutter . Rooftop rear is dented above the rear window with signs of previous body work. The truck bed has normal wear and one softball sized dent about 1/2” deep above the engine compartment. Drop gates vary in condition. Drivers side gate is in great shape with few dents and little work needed to restore. Rear gate is dented throughout and needs a little more time and work. Passenger side gate is damaged and twisted on top by the lock latch the first 18” next to the cab and will be easier to replace then restore. The other 3/4 of the gate is in good condition. Both left and right gates are bowed out like most. The front bumper is in great shape. The rear bumper isn’t. A 10”x12” section of the front nose, to the right and just below the passenger side headlight bucket has been filled with body filler. It looks to be almost half inch deep looking at it from inside the cab. The rest of the front is in great shape and straight. Looks like a fresh restored truck from 25 feet away. Any closer and you start seeing all the character. The cab is solid. Flooring underneath the bench is basically brand new looking and minimal wear is present on the floor. The dash is almost flawless except for one hole drilled for a lighter. Block off plate and vents are perfect. Bench seat is original. Drivers side seat is duct taped. Passenger side has minimal wear and original material is fully intact. Full set of grey panels & headliner. Glass is good. All lights and signals, wipers, horn, ect., work great. The engine is 1385cc. Single port. Single 30 pic Solex carb and everything else stock. Recently installed new spark plugs, plug cables, blue coil, fuel filter, fuel pump and oil strainer. Runs strong and sounds good. VIN is 524430. Build date was October 20, 1959. The truck was originally imported into Houston,TX. Original color was red. Serious inquiries/bidders only please.
