Vehicle Detail
For sale is a 1997 Ford Explorer 2 door 4x4 Sport. I am the original owner, the vehicle has never been in a wreck other that very minor scrapes for less than 1000 in damages. The engine and the transmission are good. The car burns no oil and starts right away even after sitting for days. There are a number of things wrong with the car and I will try to list all of them. The tires need to be replaced, the brakes are squeaking, the front suspension on the car is very bad, I do not drive the vehicle on the highway (over 50) because it is very bad on sharp bumps or rolling bumps and you could lose control. The check engine light is on, it comes on for about a month and then goes off for a week. The car is fine in the warm weather but when it starts to get 40 degrees and the colder it gets the harder it gets to start unless it was already warm. When it is like 20 degrees you have to start it and then push on the gas right away to keep it started, after a few seconds it is fine. The armrest is worn out. Their is a small rip on the drivers seat. The car is leather. It has a power moonroof and the air conditioning is cold. The rear window wiper does not work. The locks open by remote because of a viper alarm I have on it, but the keyholes are worn out (driver and rear hatch) and only the key unlocks the passenger side lock. It has a 6 disk CD changer and tape player. The radio sounds good as I have some aftermarket speakers in there. There is alot of rust on the car on the rear bumper and at the bottom of the doors and the sidesteps. The junk yard will give me about 500 for this so car so I am seeing if I can get more on ebay. Overall this car has a lot of minor stuff wrong with it but I have never had any problems with the engine and transmission. Another thing wrong with it is the blower for the fan only works on low or high speed, not in between. There is a battery mounted in the back of the luggage area because I used to have alot of electronics in the car. The tint on the driver and passenger windows is starting to warp. The hydraulic shocks that hold up the hood sometimes give out so it is good to prop up the hood with something. There is a cut on the rear defrost somewhere because only about 50 percent of it warms. The car has rear air conditioning and radio controls. The power seat on the drivers side works but the recline latch is broken so rear seat passengers have to go in on the passenger side. The car is sold as-is with no warranty. I tried to list everything that is wrong with it, if I forgot anything I am not assuming responsibility and the transaction is still binding. It has between 136500 and 137000 miles on it. The 4X4 works fine in all gears but I do not recomend it in low, someone told me the u-joints are wearing out and it grinds. It works fine in all time automatic though and when we get alot of snow I put in in full time high. I have a box of 4 center caps for the rims that you can have, they have trouble staying on. The drivers side front tire lost all of its air so I sprayed some fix a flat in there and it seems to be holding it. If it loses its air I will put on the full size spare which has never been used. Buyer is responsible for pick up only in South Holland, IL 60473.On Jul-25-11 at 12:12:22 PDT, seller added the following information: The rust is not actually on the door, it is on the body of the car where the door meets the frame. It is mechanically sound. Also this car is not available to be picked up on a Sunday.
