A high-end two-door luxury sports coupe dubbed the 'Bavarian Ferrari,' the E24 6-series is considered by many to be the most aesthetically pleasing BMW of all time. Just 86,219 units were built between November 1975 and April 1989. About half of those came to the United States. The ///M cars were first introduced in the US in 1987 when a US version M6 was produced for the American market. 1,767 were built. In 1987 Road and Track featured the U.S. E24 M6 as one of the 10 fastest cars in America with 0-60 time of 6.1 seconds. The E24 M6 is fast even by today's standards. Up for sale is this rare, Ultimate Driving Machine - My 1988 BMW E24 M6 with the original S38B35 engine, a varient of the S88 engine that was introduced in the legendry M1 car. I have 3 M cars; the extremely rare, 850CSI, a recently acquired E30M3, and this 1988 E24M6. Besides the BMWs, I also have 2 Mercedes Benz 560 SECs. That is just too many cars for a single person. So with a very heavy heart, I have decided to thin my herd and sell this 88 M6 and one of my Benz W126 560 SECs that I just inherited from my father. Why should you buy my car: My M6 is from the very last batch in 1988 with serial number ending in #1599. Only a handful of M sixers were built in 1989 and all of them for non-US markets. If you can find one of those I would suggest that you skip mine and buy the 1989 model. The reality is only 2 are known to exist today, so you really can't go wrong with this one. This car is in original condition, with aesthetically pleasing modifications to enhance the overall driving experience. I am the second owner and purchased the car in Georgia in 2004. The M6 has always been garaged and maintained meticulously with all necessary service performed on-time by certified BMW Master technicians and most of it as preventative. For being a Southern car and garaged in winters while in Chicago, it has never seen snow or for that matter any inclement weather, and absolutely does not have any rust. Being a 23 year old car with 135,809 miles, it has been barely driven at an average of 5,900 miles per year. Please note that I enjoy the car on weekends so the mileage will be slightly higher than stated. With originality preserved, the E24 M6 will continue to increase in value. I want to answer some fundamental questions upfront about the condition of the car to make the process easier for potential buyers: Recent Upgrades & Services: Rear Suspension: The troublesome rear SLS suspension system was deleted and swapped with Bilstein Sports Shocks. The performance and handling of the car is significantly enhanced. Front Suspension: Upper and Lower control arms and all bushings were replaced with OEM BMW performance parts to bring the handling back to factory specifications. Receipts available as proof. Clutch: Brand new clutch installed. Shifter: UCC Short shifter and brand new polyurithane bushing were installed to optimize the overall gear shifting experience. Shifter Knob: Brand new ZF M-Tech illuminated shifter knob installed. Fluids: All fluids (Engine Oil, Transmission, Brake Fluid, Stearing Box Fluid etc.) were all flushed and replaced with BMW certified fluids in June 2011 when the car was brought out of storage. Receipts prove this. There are no know fluid leaks. HID Beams: The headlights have been converted to K1 HID units significantly enhancing night time visibility. Wheels and Tires: The metric size TRX wheels and tires have been replaced with period correct 16" Millie Miglia 1000 alloy wheels wrapped in Kumho Z rated tires. I have the original TRX tires and wheels. I am willing to sell these for an additional $900. I also have a set of 17" deep dish O.Z wheels and tires that I used for show purposes. If the buyer is interested, I will be happy to sell this set of wheels and tires at an added cost of $2500. Otherwise, only the 16" Millie Miglia 5 spoke set installed on the car will be included. The Mesh (Basket Weave) Wheels and tires in some of the pictures are NOT included in this sale. Battery: Car has a brand new battery installed in May 2011. It is performing optimally. Power Steering Box: Brand new OEM Power Steering Box with servatronic installed professionally to eliminate slight fluid leak. Answers to other commonly asked questions: Exterior Condition: The car is painted in original BMW Cinabarot (Brilliant Red) color. The paint is all original except for the front air dam that was professionally painted to address some curb rash. There are some minor chips, scratches and scuffs, but absolutely no dents or dings. The paint shines brilliantly. The car was garaged all its life and was waxed on a regular basis. Absolutely no rust anywhere! Interior Condition: The car has the BMW Natur (Beige) colored interior that combined with the Brilliant Red exterior really makes the car standout. The leather is in excellent condition with no rips except for some very minor creases in the front seat leather. All trim pieced are intact. The dashboard has no cracks or warpage of any sort guaranteed! The rear deck speaker pods do not have any warpage except for a slight sunburn on the driver side pod. Tools, Books & Records: This is extremely rare but the car come with all tools and factory Books including the rare Emergency First Aid kit that is still intact. All maintenance records go with the car. Spare Tire: Original Tire. Never used. Climate Control: The front and rear A/C Blows ice cold and the heat functions as expected. A/C has been converted to R134 and recent service performed in June 2011 to ensure optimal performance. The beverage container in the back seat is ice cold when turned on. Transmission and Drivability: The car idles as expected. There are no unexpected vibrations of any kind. It shifts properly in all gears and the power is evenly delivered across the entire RPM range without any hesitations. As you may know that this S38B35 is a high reving engine. The car is expected to be driven hard. Everything gels together above 4000 RPM like it should. Suspension: The front and rear suspension was rebuilt. It is tight with no irregular play or movement. Cruise Control: Cruise Control functions perfectly. Electricals: All car electrical functions perform as they should. The sunroof functions operate optimally. The Seat functional with the exception of the headrests functions perfectly. The headrests are getting stuck for some reason and need attention. I have the car in the shop to diagnose this issue. Sound System: The car is equiped with the factory spec cassette player with 6 speaker sound system and a trunk mounted amplifier. The Stereo operates perfectly. Items needing attention: Sunburnt Speaker Pod: If requested by buyer, I can get the sunburn on the pod fixed professionally prior to delivering the car to the buyer at an additional but a very reasonable cost. Front seat headrests: The headrests are getting stuck for some reason and need attention. I have the car in the shop to diagnose this issue. If requested by buyer, I can get the head rests fixed prior to delivering the car to the buyer at an additional but very reasonable cost. Thats all I can think of right now.
