NO RESERVE AUCTION - LAST BID WINS!!! "Winners Remorse" is a waste of time. Please conduct all pre-purchase inspection before auction ends. I am selling my 1987 560 SEC pillarless coupe. This is one of the few outstanding examples of Mercedes W126 Coupes which came to dominate the Mercedes-Benz lineup in the 1980s. The W126 S-Class was a champion in the luxury car market and the SEC coupe was undisputed "champion of champions". In 1987, 1988, 1989, and 1990, with the W126 S-Class leading its sales, Mercedes-Benz received the highest customer ratings in the J.D. Power Sales Satisfaction Index. These cars were built like tanks with german engineering and precision. I am not going to spend any more time describing this model and marquee. If you are looking at this listing, I assume that you have researched these cars. If not, I encourage you to spend some time on Google. Why should you buy my car: I am going to start by quoting a Master Benz Technician who maintains my cars: "There is nothing more expensive than a cheap Mercedes". I absolutely concur, and especially when it comes to flagship models like the 560 SEC that cost more than $80,000 brand new. There are plenty of cheaper examples available in the market today but it doesn't mean that they are worth buying. Regardless of how some of these cars are priced at, they were $80,000 cars and expected to be maintained like $80,000 cars. With most of these cars exchanging hands multiple times, the maintenance usually falls by the way side for most owners. Do you really want to invest in a flagship benz for which the maintenance cannot be verified? My 87 560 SEC is a one owner car that has spent its entire life in California. It was purchased brand new by my father in 1988. He has finally decided to make room in his garage for a new 2011 S class so I ended up inheriting it. I live in Chicago and already have my own 1991 560 SEC besides 2 other BMW M cars, so I have decided to sell this one along with one of my 1988 BMW E24 M6's. The car has all maintenance records as seen in the pictures. The SEC has always been garaged and maintained meticulously with all necessary service performed on-time by certified Benz Master technicians and most of it as preventative. For being a California car, there is absolutely no rust anywhere on the car. It is a 24 year old car that has 87,534 miles on it; it was driven an average of only 3,650 miles per year. Please note that I drive the car on weekends so the mileage will be slightly higher than stated. If you are looking for a well cared for 560 SEC owned by one family all its life, low miles, no rust and in excellent overall condition with all maintenance records, then my car is the one for you. I will go as far as saying that all things considered, this is the best example listed on ebay at this time, and priced to sell. I want to answer some fundamental questions upfront about the condition of the car to make the process easier for potential buyers: Answers to commonly asked questions: Vehicle Inspection: The car received a complete safety inspection at Mercedes Benz of Chicago this month (May/June 2011) and passed with flying colors. I have the receipt to prove this. I wanted to identify any and all issues and get them fixed. Exterior Condition: The car is painted in Mercedes Anthracite Gray color. The paint is original except for the bumper, lower cladding and side view mirror housing that was professionally painted to match the car color. There are some minor chips, scratches and scuffs, and 2 small dime size door dings. This is expected for it being a 24 year old car. The paint shines brilliantly. The car was garaged all its life and was waxed on a regular basis. It has also gone through a complete interior and exterior detailing. Absolutely no rust anywhere. Interior Condition: The car has a very rare Mushroom Beige interior that combined with the dark Anthracite Gray exterior really makes the car pop. The leather is in excellent condition with no rips except for some very minor scathing on the driver seat bolster. The burl wood trim shines brilliantly. There are some minor cracks in the clear coat but no gashes. The dashboard has a small 2 inch crack near the driver side speaker. Tools, Books & Records: The car come with all tools and factory Books including the rare Emergency First Aid kit that is still intact. All maintenance records go with the car. Spare Tire: Original Michelin Tire. Never used. Cold Start: There are no cold start issues with the car. It starts up immediatly and settles at normal idle as expected. I have posted pictures of the cluster with car idling to confirm this. Hot Start: There are no Hot start issues with the car either. The car starts up immediatly with no stutters. Climate Control: The A/C Blows ice cold and the heat functions as expected. A/C Service was performed in May/June 2011 to ensure optimal performance. Transmission and Drivability: The car idles such that sometimes you will have to look at the cluster to verify that it is actually running. There are no unexpected vibrations of any kind. It shifts properly in all gears and the power is evenly delivered across the entire RPM range without any hesitations. Fluids: All fluids (Engine Oil, Transmission, Brake Fluid, Stearing Box Fluid etc.) were all flushed and replaced with Mercedes Benz certified fluids in May 2011. Receipts prove this. There are no know fluid leaks. Tune-up: A complete Tune-up was performed on the car in May/June 2011 at the time of fluid flush. This included new spark plugs, cables, air filter, fuel filter and any other necessary service as specified by Mercedes Benz. Receipt to prove this. Tires: Tires are less than 1000 miles new. Battery: Car has a new battery that is performing optimally. Electricals: All car electricals including the front and rear heated seats work as they should. The sunroof functions operate optimally. Cruise Control: Cruise Control functions perfectly. Sound System: The car is equiped with the factory spec Becker Grand Prix 754 cassette player with 6 speaker sound system and a trunk mounted amplifier. The Stereo operation is intermittent. According to Mercedes Benz of Chicago, it has honorably served its duties in the last 24 years (the tech was trying to be funny). Seat belt Extenders: Both seat belt extenders are functional. Please refer to pictures. Headlight Wipers: Both headlight wipers are functional. Items needing attention: Dime size Door Dings: Very minor; these can be fixed with paintless dent removal service. I will fix these 2 door dings before delivering the car to the buyer. Becker Grand Prix 754 cassette player: The original Becker can be rebuilt. If I would keep the car, I would have had Becker Audio North America rebuild it for me to keep the stock look but add ipod auxiliary cable to add modernity. Alternative is to replace with a more modern Becker unit purchased from Becker Audio. Dashboard Crack: I will leave this as-is and suggest the buyer to leave it as it is. To repair this crack, you will need to remove the dash which is not wise. It will never be installed back the original way and there will be rattles and squeaks forever. I suggest you live with it in favor of factory fit and finish and a quiet cabin feel. Chips and Scratches: This repair if performed correctly will need sanding and repaint of the panels. I like my cars to be original and therefore do not plan to address this. Buyer can decide if he/she wants to get these chips fixed. I don't think it is needed unless you are looking to make this a show quality example. Thats all I can think of right now. If you have any specific questions please feel free to ask. Please note that the car is sold as-is with no warranty included or implied. I am a big proponent of pre-purchase car inspections and encourage all potential buyers to do the same with my car before bidding. I am also willing to take the car to any of your specified inspection shops within a reasonable distance of downtown chicago. The cost of all inspections is the responsibility of the buyer. I will also assist with shipping. The cost of shipping is buyer's responsibility. The car is listed locally for sale, so I retain the right to end the auction early if the car sells through another channel. Now enjoy the pictures and happy bidding!
