Vehicle Detail

You are bidding on a 1964 Austin Healey BJ8, phase 1. The original color was Healey blue but was painted red years ago and now has primer on the right side of the car. A total of 17,711 BJ8`s were built from 11/63 to 12/67 plus one more built in 3/68 from left over factory parts.Only 1390 phase 1`s were built compared to 16,322 phase 11`s. The main difference between the two models is straight main chassis rails like the BJ7 and the later cars had a raised area inthe rear part of the rails for revised rear springs for a softer ride. There was also a pair of radius arms attached to the rear end housing and the chassis. The exterior door handles were the pull type like the BJ7 and the console was longer with a shorter arm rest with a lift up top for map storage, etc.The phase 1`s also had small glass beehive style front and rear signal lights and the brakes were servo assisted but with the earlier style calipers. The phase 1`s handle better than the later cars. This car is a good candiidate for a cosmetic restoration. It has a great body and needs very little body work to be ready for paint. there is very little rust in the car, it will need a small patch in the footwell area on each. The trunk floor needs to be replaced but the rest of the floors are great. The LH dogleg area on the rear fender has a couple of small holes and part of the end of the rocker panel is rusted away, maybe 2" of it. The RH dogleg and the end of the rocker are good. The frame rails and the outriggers are in geat shape and even the front cross member has very little jack damage. The pictures show some rusty spots but it is surface rust only from setting, it will come off with a wire brush. The door gaps are great except the RH door sits a little high over the rocker panel making the gap a little larger. The front shroud is in very good condition as well as the rest of the body. The interior is the original blue but should be replaced and could be used as is and redo it at a later date. The door glass is in good condition without the usual scratches found on a used Healey. The windshield is original tri-plex but is cracked. All the chrome on the car is great and will clean up great, I tried several places with fine steel wool and it looks good, no pitting or fine corrison marks. The front shroud emblem is dented along with that section of the shroud from something falling on the car. The reproduction emblems are very nice now. It could also use a new wood dash. The top is in good condition but has a cloudy rear window The engine runs great with good oil pressure but the header pipes are both broken where they attach to the muffler so it is quite loud but the muffler and tailpipe are in good condition. I think the engine and transmission have been rebuilt but I have no proof of the work. The engine tag is gone from having the block hot tanked as a shop would do if rebuilding, The tag is aluminum and will disapear is not taken off prior to the hot tank cleaning. It is a correct BJ8 block as you can tell by the location of the dipstick. The engine was repainted in a wrong shade of green. I did not drive the car as the tires are very rotten but still hold air but 2 of them will loose air after setting about a month. The overdrive solonoid clicks in as it should. The brakes work but still need rebuilding and you can drive the car up on a trailer or transport truck. The wheels are the original painted 60 spoke and in good condition. The car is for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the auction early. For more details on the car you can contact me at 541 933 2016 THERE IS NO WARANTY OF ANY KIND SOLD AS IS!!
