Vehicle Detail
RARE BARN FIND! 1964 VW Karman Ghia Type 34 After nearly 30 years in dry storage we have just uncovered and rolled out a rare type 34 VW Karman Ghia (varient). THE BASICS: The vehicle is pretty much complete. There is some patchy rust on the body, along the bottom edges and corners, and has never been in a collision. Both doors open and close (with creaks) and hoods open and latch with no dents. Glass is intact with no cracks or chips, except rr window replaced with plex. Windows roll up and down. It was running when I drove it in 30 years ago so I believe the engine is in good condition. It rolled out ok though a little stiff I suspect due to rust in the brake drums. All tires are flat, but I will include four good tires that were never put on plus the spare. The interior is what you’d expect for a car stored that long, dusty, musty, and mold. Seats are original and could use covering. Headliner is shot. Driver side door panel missing. Speedometer for some reason was removed but I have original with other replacement gauges. Tail lights are JC Witney replacements. THE BAD: The worst thing is a hole cut out on the underside of the left front body (see picture) where an attempt was made to fix a rust hole but was never completed. Its going to take a little sheet metal and body work to patch this up. No structural or mechanical components are affected. The pan under rear passenger side is rusty and seems weak. Also theres a pretty good dent right in the nose but looks like this could be bumped out fairly easy Most of the rubber gaskets around the hoods and doors are in poor condition except for the ones around the front and rear windshields which look tight. Right backup light on rear bumper missing. Front right turn lens broken. Two front fog lights missing. Headlight trim gone. Driver door has indent in front and is loose in the hinges. It has to be lifted a little to close. THE GOOD: I am including in this sale a complete spare engine (1600 pancake on a dolly) and many hard to find parts I have collected. Included are: 4 cylinders, 2 carburetors , lights, gauge set, 4 tires, owners manual, original shop service manual, and box of small clips and misc items. I have clean Title and was last registered in California. This is a good restoration project that starts with a complete and reasonably sound vehicle. The spare engine and parts should be useful to completion. According to the type 34 registry there are only about 500 of these vehicles known to exist in the US. The few that have been restored are quite valuable since it is one of the rarest cars on earth. Buyer will be responsible to move vehicle. Once transaction is complete the successful bidder will receive keys, directions, bill of sale, and title.
