Vehicle Detail
It's hard for me to know where to start with this Jeep. It is just wonderful, everyone has heard this a thousand times, but I really don't want to sell it, however, I just plain need the money to keep the family going. There is no reserve on this listing. I believe this jeep is the quintessential jeep and certainly one of the best ever made. This is a 1979 Jeep CJ5 Renegade in unbelievable condition. I bought this jeep from a dealer and drove it home thinking it would need some work, My family owns three garages in Western Pennsylvania so I had a good set of resources to get it perfect. The exterior and interior looked great but i was worried about the engine, i was told it sat for the last five years. I took it to the shop for a full inspection. They were amazed. This Jeep is absolutely perfect mechanically. Everything is also original under the hood. This jeep has the 304 CI V8 and the matched 3 speed manual, both running perfectly and still in great condition. If you can believe it no rust, i was told like everyone else is when they are buying a jeep, that this jeep was kept is a cool garage all winter and only driven to the beach and back and used as a summer car. After the inspection I honestly can not refute that claim. I had the shop go over the jeep with a fine tooth comb and they were amazed. All and I mean all of the fluids were changed, high mileage synthetic used for the oil. Brake fluid, Tranny Fluid, Diff fluid all drained and replaced. New battery, wires and new distributor cap installed (not because it needed it, just because i already bought them and wanted them put on. Also even though this 79 jeep is exempt from emissions i had them test it anyway, and it was perfect. New air filter and Two new inspection stickers on the Jeep that don't expire until June 2012. The exterior is almost just as good. The rear quater panel has some bubbling, however it is solid, there was a repair made that just needs a little touch up and paint and it is good to go. The body said for 500 dollars the quarter panel will look like brand and there is one 2.00 knob missing on the dash, that is it, that is the "bad". One rear plastic fender flare was cracked, but i bought a new one and have it in a box ready to go. Brand new Best top Soft Top with all new hardware. Brand new still in box Besttop Bimini Top. Brand new wipers still in box. New Haynes Repair manual. Brand new side step nerf bars (black), not installed yet, still in box. Pioneer radio installed, speakers not connected yet, i wasn't sure where to mount them and i didn't want to drill any holes and ruin anything. Interior carpet in awesome shape, looks new. Everything works, the heat, the air, the choke, headlamps, turn signals, tail lamps. Has the original towing kit, i ran some electric to the hitch so i could maybe tow a trailer with it, never towed anything but the tow package works perfectly. Warn locking hubs, four inch lift kit with just about new tires. New front roll cage installed to make the jeep a safe vehicle. The old saying was "it's hard to stay alive in a cj-5". So I had them weld in an additional roll cage over the driver and passenger for safety, you can always take it out it you don't like the look, i think it looks awesome though. 4 wheel drive works flawlessly. rear seat belt was a bit tattered so i removed it and bought a new lap belt, still in the box and also included with the jeep. I also have a brand new gray high back vinyl seat (the original low back is still in there) that will come with the jeep, i was a little to big for the low back. used bestop center console that will come with the jeep, i found this at my cousins shop and he gave it too me, good condition. I am probably forgetting something else, but please ask any questions that you have. I am going to list this as a no reserve, like i said i really need the money so i hope a jeep lover gets this baby, it would make anyone happy. Here is the VIN decoded. So you know that the parts in this jeep are matching with what they are supposed to be. J9F83AH832433 J=Jeep 9=1979 F=3 speed 83=CJ-5 A=3750 GVW H=304 ci. engine last six numbers are the serial Here is some background on the CJ-5's. The Willys CJ-5 (after 1964 Jeep CJ-5) was influenced by new corporate owner, Kaiser, and the Korean War M38A1 Jeep. It was intended to replace the CJ-3B, but that model continued in production. The CJ-5 repeated this pattern, continuing in production for three decades while three newer models appeared. "The CJ-5 has the distinct honor of being a vehicle that was hard to kill off... equaling the longest production run of note."[12] A total of 603,303 CJ-5s were produced between 1954 and 1983. In 1965, Kaiser bought the casting rights to the Buick 225 cu in (3.7 L) V6 Dauntless and the CJ-5 and CJ-6 got a new engine with 155 hp (116 kW) supplementing the four-cylinder Willys Hurricane engine. A similar model, the Jeep DJ, was based on the CJ. The company was sold to American Motors (AMC) in 1970, and the GM engine was retired after the 1971 model year. (GM's Buick division repurchased the engine tooling in the early 1970s which served as the powerplant in several GM vehicles.) The "Trac-Lok" limited-slip differential replaced the "Powr-Lok" in 1971. American Motors began using their own engines in 1972. Replacing the Hurricane was the one-barrel 232 cu in (3.8 L) (except in California). Optional was a one-barrel 258 cu in (4.2 L) (standard in California). Also in 1972, AMC's 304 cu in (5.0 L) V8 engine became available in the same tune as a base V8 muscle car. To accommodate the new engines the fenders and hood were stretched 5 inches (127 mm) starting in 1972 and the wheelbase was stretched 3 inches (76 mm). Other drive train changes took place then as well, including the front axle becoming a full-floating Dana 30. In 1976 the tub and frame were modified slightly from earlier versions. The windshield frame also changed meaning that tops from 1955-1975 will not fit a 1976-1983 CJ-5 and vice-versa.On Jul-07-11 at 19:33:36 PDT, seller added the following information: I just added a picture of the vin plaque in the engine compartment, i had three requests to see it, so i figured i better put a picture of it up. I also had a question about the seat, they are not seat covers they one piece low back gray vinyl seats. Also I had a question about a clock on the left of the steering wheel, there is not one there, I don't know if there is a special edition that has that clock, but this one does not seem to. Since the only VIN plaque is the one pictured under the hood, you can't tell if this is a special edition. 1979 is the silver anniversary year for the cj-5 this jeep may or may not be one of the special models though. I just wanted to make sure i added that to the listing.
