Vehicle Detail
For Sale 50th Anniversary Edition 1953 Buick Skylark Body #G006 Located in Colorado 50th Anniversary Edition 1953 Buick Skylark, 86,000 original miles. V-8, Automatic, Power Steering, Power Brakes. The paint is approximately 35 years old, there are scratches and chips. Original Kelsey-Hayes 40 spoke wire wheels with new Coker Radial Tires. The car sports continental kit which was offered as an after market feature by Buick. Buick history I inherited the car from my late husband estate. The Buick was a gift to from my father in-law to his late wife. The car has been in the family 57 years and garaged 90% of the time. The Buick was purchased in San Diego California in 1954 and driven until the late 60’s. In the early 70’s my late husband became the car’s care taker. In 1992 he inherited from his mother’s estate. In 1996 we started a $25,000 mechanical restoration of the engine & drive train which was completed in 2000. Today the car has 86,066 miles. The Buick is mechanically functioning; system has been flushed and maintained during storage. The glass is in good shape. When the new wiring harness was installed the windows were wired backwards. The convertible rear window zipper no longer works. The windows struggle to go up and down. The limited production of the1953 Skylark was a special Anniversary Convertible honoring Buicks 50th birthday. Featuring a chopped windshield, lowered fender lines, enlarged wheel housing and a clear Lucite horn button with the owner’s signature. Kelsey-Hayes 40 spoke wire wheels. The 1953 Buick Skylark featured V8 power and a 12 volt electrical system. Only 1690 were built. John Garratt from the ’53-54’ Skylark Club has seen the car and has offered his professional opinion. This 1953 Skylark is a complete car with most things in working order. The pot metal parts like the upper grille bar, vent window frames, door handles, and knock off hubs are original and in surprisingly good condition for their age. The seats and door panels have been done in the correct pattern. The owner states that the engine and transmission have been rebuilt. The original wire wheels are rusty at the hubs but not at the rims. The floor seems solid, as well as the rocker panels and the area in front of the rear tires which are the usual rusty areas. The fenders, doors and rear quarter panels have dents or amateur body work and the bumpers need to be straightened or replaced. Almost all other components need to be restored for it to be a show car. I rate the car as “good” or “4” as described in the Old Cars Price Guide. However, I feel the car has extra value in the seats, door panels and rebuilt engine and transmission, and has great potential.
