1982 Datsun 720 Pickup DIESEL Silver / Black 305,520 Miles / VIN: JN6SD01S0CW103219 Contact Brady Short at Short Motor Company 4362 McCart Ave, Fort Worth, TX, 76115 Phone: (817) 988-2629 1982 Datsun 720 Pickup DIESEL NO RESERVE AUCTION - HIGH BIDDER WINS! AUCTION ENDS SUNDAY EVENING, JULY 10th! *100% Positive Feedback 100% of the time since 1999* Please be patient while all the pictures load. There are 91 of them, so it may take a couple of minutes depending on your internet connection speed. You may even need to reload/refresh this page if all the pictures don't load properly at first. This little pickup has been my personal truck for the past 7 months or so and it's been a good one! The only reason I'm selling it is because we were blessed with a little boy back in February (our first child), and I'm finally coming to the realization that every personal vehicle I own needs to have 4 doors and be able to safely carry all 3 of us or I just don't get much use out of it (I've only put about 1,200 miles on this truck in the 7 months I've owned it). This little Datsun has the Nissan SD22 diesel engine with a 5-speed transmission and cold factory A/C (but no power steering). The SD22 diesel is absolutely legendary and was only available in Datsun pickups from 1980 to 1983. This engine is still used extensively in Australia as a stationary engine on ranches to run water pumps and such. The only revision to the engine during the 1980 to 1983 Datsun model years came in 1981 when pistons were upgraded to a three ring piston with a steel compression ring carrier cast as part of the piston for improved durability. There is a supplier in California (Jesco) who still sells complete SD22 diesel engines - and they're basically exactly the same as the engine in this truck! Naturally, engine parts are also available from Jesco. I love diesels in general (I've personally owned many diesel VW's, Mercedes, Dodge, Ford, Chevy, etc.), but I had always wanted a Datsun 720 diesel pickup because I feel like it's the ultimate little handy truck for a diesel enthusiast. I found this one for sale locally last December and purchased it the same day the owner put it on the market. It had been in the same family since new. The original owner was a woman who worked for Amsco Steel near downtown Fort Worth. She lived on the far west side of town and needed something that got good fuel mileage and could haul around her gardening supplies, so she picked this one out and drove it off the Datsun dealership's front line. In 1997, she retired and gave the truck to her brother who lived in Allen (just north of Dallas). He drove it to work everyday until he retired in 2009 and gave it to his son. This son (the nephew of the original owner) was the one I bought it from. This truck has never had biodiesel or waste vegetable oil (or anything else besides diesel) run through it, but it is a prime candidate for alternative fuels such as these because the engine is so simple and durable. I have service records dating back to 1997, which mainly just consist of regular maintenance like filters and alternators. I took a picture of the stack of records I got with the truck (which doesn't include all my receipts). But the most important receipt is from about 2006 when the transmission was completely rebuilt and a new clutch was installed (about $1,700 worth of work, if I remember correctly). Once I bought the truck, I wanted to iron out all of the little things that needed attention or would anytime soon, so I had my mechanic go over it extremely thoroughly and here is what all he did: - New steering gearbox- New pitman arm- New ignition switch- New inner tie rod ends- New steering coupling- New front brake pads and rotors- New front inner and outer wheel bearings with seals- New upper ball joints- New upper control arm bushings- New rear axle bearings and seals- New air filter- New fuel filters- New oil change- New radiator hoses and radiator cap- New coolant flush- Air Conditioning flushed and serviced- New sideview mirrors- New tires As you can see, no stone was left unturned when it came to getting this little truck ready for the road. It's ready to drive anywhere. Being a 1982 Datsun, it does have its minor faults that come with age, but none are pressing. There is no radio or speakers, although all the wiring is still intact if you'd rather listen to something besides your iPod. The A/C does blow cold, but it doesn't blow all that hard (at least not like what most folks are used to who drive modern cars). The truck is surprisingly peppy and it will go 70 MPH all day long, but it's no race car and it does smoke a little (perfectly normal for this engine, even when it was new). There is very minimal blow-by and it doesn't seem to burn any oil. There are also no leaks that I'm aware of. The only rust I've been able to find on the entire truck is two very small spots on the bottom of the passenger side floor pan, and a little corrosion on the bottom edge of the driver's door. Everything else (frame, body, etc.) is completely rust-free (this truck has never left Texas since new). The original color was "Diamond Mist Metallic" and it has been amateurly repainted once several years ago, but it is very faded. There are also a few tiny dings and such, but no major dents. The passenger side fender emblem is missing. I removed all of the body side molding because the rubber has deteriorated, but I do still have all the molding and the screws to attach it. The parking brake doesn't work because the cable is broken (a new cable is available from the Nissan dealer, as are many other parts for this truck, but it's rather expensive so I never bothered to replace it). The windshield has two rock chips that have been sealed (no cracks). I'm sure there are other little imperfections besides the ones I've listed, but just look at the many pictures I took and you'll get a pretty good idea of the condition. The headlights, horn, turn signals, etc all work. This is a dependable little truck, but it is almost 30 years old, so you can plan on doing some light tinkering on it every once in a while. As for fuel economy, it seems to make a big difference how you drive it - I've seen as high as 28 MPG and as low as 22 MPG. If a person drove extremely conservatively, I could see 30 MPG being possible. I have the clean and clear Texas title in hand. The Carfax and AutoCheck reports are both clean with no accidents. EMAIL OR CALL ME (BRADY SHORT) AT 817-988-2629 WITH ANY QUESTIONS -->About Us PLEASE CALL AHEAD BEFORE COMING OVER FOR A TEST DRIVEYou will not have access to my secured inventory without an appointment. Thanks! Our History: Short Motor Company was founded by my Dad, Leo Short, in 1990 after he was a Snap-On Tool dealer for 9 years. He was guided in starting his business by his uncle, John Short, who owned several new and used car dealerships throughout Texas over the course of more than 30 years in the business. I started working for my Dad at age 16, finished high school, and began my college career toward my Associates Degree in Automotive Marketing and Management from Northwood University in Cedar Hill, TX. I married my wonderful wife Rachel in 2007 and we welcomed a baby boy to our family in February 2011. My Dad and I continue to work together: he sells vehicles strictly from his storefront just as he has done since 1990, while I have chosen to cater to the online community. When I was 12 years old, my Grandpa gave me a 1965 Mustang Fastback that had been sitting in a field since the 1970's. It was my dream car, but once I started looking to buy parts for it and realized that wasn't going to happen with my [non-existent] budget, I sold it for $1,300. By the time I graduated High School at age 17, I had bought and sold over 30 cars. For my High School yearbook, they made up a new "Most Likely To Be..." category for me - I was "Most Likely To Become President Of Ford Motor Company". When I joined eBay in 1999 I was buying and selling rare Hot Wheels toy cars. Now since 2006 I've been selling pre-owned cars and trucks full-time on eBay. Since day one, I've maintained 100% positive feedback. My Philosophy: To provide quality pre-owned vehicles with outstanding value and superior customer service. I realize that my customers have a lot of choices when purchasing a vehicle and my goal is to cater to you personally by providing a perfectly painless purchasing experience. I treat you with the same respect, honesty, and integrity that I would expect to receive. All of my vehicles are hand-picked, thoroughly inspected and fully serviced, and then inspected cosmetically and test driven by me before they're ever offered for sale. Mechanic work is done by Downtown Garage (110 Carroll Street). Detailing is done by Classic Auto Detail (2713 West 5th Street; Voted the Best Detail Shop in Fort Worth by readers of the Fort Worth Weekly magazine). Both of these shops have been in operation for over 20 years. If you have a question about anything at all, please don't hesitate to ask - I'm readily available through email (bradyshort@gmail.com) or a phone call (817-988-2629). -Brady Short Finance I DO NOT OFFER FINANCING. However, if you choose to seek your own financing through a bank or credit union, I can work with them to finalize your purchase. Winning bidder MUST contact me within 24 hours of auction end, and make arrangements for payment at that time. If no contact is made within 24 hours I reserve the right to sell it to the next highest bidder, re-list the vehicle, or sell it elsewhere. Please do not bid on this auction unless you are serious about owning this vehicle. All non-paying high bidders will be reported to eBay. If financing, make sure your financial institution accepts the year and miles of this vehicle before bidding. Please arrange financing prior to bidding. If you are not sure about something, please ask. Do not assume anything not listed or pictured is included. Feel free to call me (817-988-2629) or email me (bradyshort@gmail.com) for any reason. I reserve the right to cancel bids for excessive negative feedback or not enough feedback. If you have less than 2 feedbacks, please email me before bidding. All of my vehicles are thoroughly checked out by my mechanic before they are ever put on eBay and any maintenance needs are taken care of. Most of my customers are from out of state, so I take great care to make absolutely certain (to the best of my ability) that the vehicle is in excellent mechanical (and cosmetic) condition. Please understand these are used vehicles, and may have very minor imperfections that are not noted. I try very hard to describe each vehicle accurately; however, if you have a question about something specific that you feel is not addressed adequately in the description, please call or email me. Sometimes the vehicle may have slightly more miles on it after the auction is over than what it had when the eBay listing started. This will not be a drastic mileage increase (usually only a couple hundred miles at the most), but it does happen on occasion because of test drives and demonstrations during the auction. I want this transaction to be as smooth and pleasant as possible. A happy buyer is a well educated buyer, so if you are in doubt about anything, please ask.
