Vehicle Detail
Up for bids is my 49 Chevy Coupe. It is a running and driving car but still a work in progress. I have decided to retire and there is no room for the car in our retirement home, so it needs a new home. The pictures should give you a pretty good feel for the car. Built as a 50's style rod, it is nosed and decked with portholes molded into hood sides (49 Buick), rear fender trim is removed and body smoothed. Front coils have been cut (old school) and rear has lowering blocks for a great stance. Rides nice. In addition to the obvious, I have replaced the brakes including new lines and wheel cylinders up front, new water pump, new fuel pump (including an electric pump as backup and to help prime the carbs after sitting awhile), new front stabilizer bushings and links, new shocks, all new side glass ( rear windows slide on the coupe) along with felt channels and gaskets, floors have been replaced, interior well insulated, seat belts installed. The engine is a 216ci and has dual Carter carbs on a vintage Offy manifold with manifold heat to help in the cold weather, Fenton exhaust manifolds and dual exhaust give it a great sound. It has been converted from road draft tube to PCV. I have tried to keep it vintage in appearance and have used vintage parts/accessories whenever possible. Car is still 6 volt with Optima battery and it starts without problem and runs well. Wiring has been upgraded, repaired or replaced as needed. It is a dependable driver. (I purchased the car In Florida roughly 4 years ago and drove it home to Missouri over 900 miles with no real problems and that was before the valves were adjusted properly, vacuum advance was working, engine was tuned, wiring was repaired, etc.) Drive train is stock with manual "3 on the tree" and 4.10 gearing. It needs the windshield replaced and the new glass and gasket are included in this sale. All of the original trim is also included (was removed for repair and polishing) along with a few spare pieces along with the windshield visor. The front suspension could probably use a rebuild or at the least a good alignment and the clutch has some chatter on take off but does not slip. My intention was to go to an open drive line so there is a 64 Chevelle 3.08 10 bolt open rear end along with a Saginaw 4 speed manual tranny, Hurst Compition Plus shifter and 57 truck bellhousing also included in this sale. All of the miscellanious spare parts such as new dummy spot lights and a new 8" bench buffer are included in this sale (so you can finish polishing the trim). I even have the old carpet. As I said, I don't have the room to keep the car so I am letting everything go together in this sale. This car is fun and gets a lot of attention. You can't build one for what I'm asking for it. The hard work is done for the most part so you can leave it alone or take it to another level. Coupes are hard to find and they are'nt making any more of them! You can see the history of work performed and more pictures on this link: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3304881 Please, serious inquiries only! Lets don't waste each others time. I'm serious about selling but I'm not interested in trades of any kind. Winning buyer is responsible for $900.00 non refundable deposit at end of auction. Balance of payment is due within 7 days via electronic bank transfer or cash if car is picked up in person. Shipping is at buyers expense and I will help with loading. I strongly urge that you inspect the car in person, I am located 20 minutes from Lambert/St. Louis airport. Thanks for looking! I am also posting a video of it running. http://video.cardomain.com/VideoPlayer.aspx?id=679244 On Jun-17-11 at 11:03:55 PDT, seller added the following information: Red horn on firewall is a vintage Bull Horn. You old timers will know what that is! It's loud too.On Jun-29-11 at 18:42:13 PDT, seller added the following information: Pics added of dummy spots, glove box liner, rearend, tranny, shifter, bellhousing and trunk weatherstrip. These all go with the car. Try and find a better deal!
