Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 1966 Fiat 1500 Spider Cabriolet w/HardtopFabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino Pininfarina Cabriolet There were around 80,000 of these cars made and only about 40,000 came to the US. Very few remain and a great many of them rusted away. Some have said there are probably only 20 to 40 or so left. This is an exceptional, solid car and thus a real find for the collector in the hunt. See the car at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxLpqKPLorMThe great part, no cancerous rust. The floor pans, rocker panels and even the battery box are solid. You see a bit of surface rust, but not cancer. The car has picked up a couple of very minor dings near the top of the left rear fender and a couple of scratches to the paint. It looks like someone put a tow hook under the left rear bumper and bent it a bit and put a slight twist on the corner wrap. The bumper will need to be straightened at some point, but you can see in the picks that this is minor. The passenger side wing window is missing. Should be easy to replace. The other windows are good and I even have a spare window. The windshield is good, but it did pick up a small rock chip in the last move. It should be an easy repair, but should be done soon. The previous owner bored and balanced the engine, rebuilt the transmission, a 5 speed, and a new clutch. He drove it for about 30k miles and then stripped it down to repaint. While tearing down the engine compartment he decided to pull the head and it was rebuilt. So the engine and trans are in great shape they have just not run for a while. Somewhere in that timeframe he simply stopped working on it. I picked it up and have had it for a few years as a project I wanted to get to. I finally started putting it back together and actually am not far from completing it, as you can see.It still will need a head pipe and exhaust. There are a few parts in the engine compartment to put in yet, such as the brake servo, voltage regulator, coil etc, but some of those need to be cleaned and painted first. I would plan to thoroughly inspect the wiring before hooking up a battery just to be sure there are no frays or loose ends. Also plan on inspecting the brakes and a full bleed since it’s been sitting for a long time and the lines have been disconnected. The interior will still need some work. I have the door panels and accessories, but they need to be redone, as do the seats and you’ll need carpet. The top is pretty good except the rear window which is discolored and broken in one corner. However, this also comes with a new soft top in the box, so you just need to put on the new one. The kicker is that it has the original hardtop in great shape. That is rare.I also have some extra chrome I’ve picked up and I have two books. One is a manual on a 1500 and the other is a parts manual with picture diagrams and part numbers. It still needs some work, but it’s not far from road worthy. I was moving toward finishing this, but family issues have dictated that I need to go ahead and sell it now. My loss could become your dream. I do have a clear title. The odometer says 98k and may be about right, but who knows. You just have to judge what you see. With its 80 HP engine and its inspired aerodynamic body, the Fiat 1500 Spider sports roadster is a constant thrill to its owner, and never-failing lift to his pride. Handling as gently as a kitten, it will do 100 miles an hour with safety, luxury and comfort. Its super-efficient, economical (1481 cc) engine takes it from zero to 60 in a few seconds. Fiat's famed mechanical know-how and the best in racing experience has been concentrated in this engine to achieve the peak potential of internal combustion. Polyspheric combustion chambers, provide better compression ratios and improved overall distribution of stresses; thus minimum wear and maximum life. Two-barrel Weber carburetor and inclined OHV system combine to assure full power output. The body is another triumph for Pininfarina mastery of design. Crisp, clean and clear of line -- not an inch wasted -- its electrifying to the eye at a standstill or in flight. The interior has been planned with equal emphasis on convenience and comfort. Specially designed bucket seats covered with leatherette grain upholstery and padded with heavy foam are contoured to give effective support under all driving conditions and to relax driver and companion. Bucket seats can be adjusted to fit perfectly, with ample fore and aft range. Dashboard is illuminated tastefully and clearly. Instruments are easy to read, controls are at your finger tips. Ignition key also locks steering wheel. Clock, cigarette lighter, heater, defroster, electric fan, windshield wipers, other accessories that usually cost extra are all included. Top raised and lowered easily by one person in either seat in seconds, providing full "all weather" protection. Roll-up windows. Trunk is extra large, with flat floor, all space usable. You can pack more luggage in the 1500 than in most comparable size sports cars. Spare tire underneath. A hardtop is optional.
