Vehicle Detail
Here for your consideration is a 1956 Mercury Montclair two door hardtop. This is a one owner car prior to my owning it. this car was purchased new by a mechanic at the Lincoln Mercury dealer in Martinsville, Virginia. He drove and cared for the car until his death 20 years ago. It then just sat in the carport until I bought it early this year. The car has 61730 actual miles on it. The color combination is rare in the fact that most of these cars were painted the same color below the body moulding that was on the top. If you decode the door tag, it was ordered as you see it. The trunk and floor are amazingly nice. The rockers have some minor rust, as well as one spot on the driver's side floor. The front edge of the hood is rusty. I have the hood peak moulding in the trunk. After purchasing this car, I had a shop that specializes in '50's Fords to get in shape to drive. The brake system was completely rebuilt, including the treadlevac booster. The original carb was rebuilt and the generator as well. All of the lights and signals are working as well as the courtesy lights inside. The Merc cranks faster than you can believe. It drives and stops well. I have not had it 70 mph on the highway, but rather have been driving it on 10-15 mile trips and errands. It is a lot of fun and attracts a great deal of attention. The tires are a new set of radials. This is a car that you can dependably drive now while you restore it. This car does need restoring, but since it is mechanically functioning, there are no purprises of what it will require to restore. This car is factory equipped with 312 4V engine, Automatic Transmission, and Power Brakes. These cars are selling for figures that will allow for the restoration and should make it a profitable investment. I have the original Virginia title for the Merc from 1956. Please don't hesitate to ask any questions about the car. Buyer is responsible for moving the car.
