Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 1948 Cadillac Fleetwood 60 special. This vehicle was owned by a family friend and taken off the road in late 70's. Was stored inside at that time. My father purchased the vehicle many years ago and it also remained stored inside. I aquired the vehicle, but will never give it the restoration it deserves. I have decided to sell. In the last few years it has had a new exhaust, tires, and other minor mechanical work. It runs and idles very nice. It does drive. Brakes work, etc, but I would not drive it far as it has not been registered since 1979. It currently has 71,571 miles. There is an oil change sticker from 1974 showing just over 70k miles. So I believe mileage to be correct. I have clear title in hand. According to the owner my father aquired it from, it was previoiusly a chauffer driven car. Now for description of condition. Exterior seems to be mostly orginal paint. There was some touchup done on front pass. fender as it appears to have been bumped out at some time from a minor dent. No filler I can see. Car appears to be fairly solid, with some rust showing in rear fender edges where it meets rear door opening. Skirts and bottoms of rear fenders seem solid, Some rust holes under stainless trim on front fenders, and couple holes under one headlight. Hood and deck lid solid. I don't see any major rust around windows. Frame and everything under car are solid. Under floor was undercoated way back it seems. Don't see any rust other than surface of frame under the car. Engine is original flathead V8 and runs nice. Does not seem to smoke. Early automatic transmission shifts well. Still a 6 volt system. Interior appears original with exception of seat covers. Not sure when they were put on or what seats look like under the covers. See photos for interior condition. I have not spent any time cleaning it up. Just vacuumed out the dust and wiped it down with damp rag. The hydraulic cyclinders for the power windows need rebuilt as they leak down over time. The windows are blocked up at this time. This car needs and I think deserves a restoration. I don't want to portray it as nicer than it is, so trying to point out that it is not something you drive away in. That being said, I think it is decent for its age and runs and drives. I have seen worse at car shows, but this is not show ready. Car sells as-is with no warranty or guarantees of any kind. Some of the parts like blower were removed and are in trunk. See photos. The inside front window trim is in the trunk. The story goes, the chauffer did not like the clare off the chrome so it was removed. $500 deposit due within 48 hours of auctions end by paypal unless other arrangements are made prior to close of auction. Reserve is reasonable. I know this is not worth a fortune, please understand that. Please do not bid unless you plan to follow through on purchase. Ask questions. You can send phone number in email if you would like to talk. I do have alot more photos I will be happy to send seriously interested persons. Do not ask for the photos unless you are seriously interested. Please put email address in request. Best if you can look at car in person before bidding. Located about 1 hour north of Detroit. Thanks for looking.
