Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 PLEASE READ THE FULL DESCRIPTION BEFORE BIDDING. Thank You This very clean 2002 Mazda MPV LX has automatic transmission problems. While it may be counter productive to selling it, I do not want to encourage anyone to purchase this who isn’t capable of repairing it – or isn’t prepared to pay the rather substantial cost of having the repairs done. The problem is such – The O/D light flashes. All the gears are functional, BUT, the transmission shifts VERY HARD into all gears. This hard shifting causes the van to lurch forward. This condition makes the driver feel they have been hit from behind. From what I have read on the Internet it is also indicative of a transmission that can completely fail (from the hard shifting) at any moment. This transmission condition is dangerous. Dangerous enough that I am stating the buyer must trailer this van home (do not attempt to drive it until you have it repaired). Additionally, it is illegal to drive the van on the roadways while on Non-Op status. The transmission already had the recall “flash” to the computer. So, that is not the problem. These Mazda vans (and most all “early” 2000 -up --- Jaguar, Landrover, VW, Ford etc.) - with the Jatco 5 speed Automatic transmission are known to have failures. The Internet is festooned with complaints. Too bad because otherwise it is a nice van. The fact that this van made it to 108,000 miles before the problem occurred seems like a miracle. That may be because though Mazda offered no service of the transmission fluid I elected to change it about every 50,000 miles. There is a short video at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15fByDPzlic This video is only to illustrate that the van runs and can be put on a trailer. It is NOT to encourage anyone to drive it on the roadways until it is repaired!!! You are buying this van AS/IS and accept all liability upon being the winning bidder. You will be required to truthfully fill out the DMV “release of liability” upon pick up (with accurate purchase price). Make sure the actually purchaser intending to take ownership is present at pick up. Your election to bid (even as a representative of another) means you agree to abide by the stipulations of this auction. I am also requiring the buyer to sign a separate release acknowledging that I have disclosed the condition of the vehicle, and that they have accepted purchasing it AS/IS and also accept full liability/responsibility upon purchase/pick-up. I do not know what the transmission repair will cost. When I looked to replace the (whole) transmission the prices varied significantly. Please investigate this for yourself and factor that cost in before bidding. This was my wife’s van. We have been the only owners. It has a silver exterior with a gray interior. The pictures make it look a little better than it is, but it still looks very nice for 9 years old and 108,000 miles. She has kept the interior exceptionally clean. It looks very good except for the front door panels just below the windows. There is some speckled discoloration of white appearing on the gray plastic surface. There is also some very light carpet wear at the enter/exit points. The seats look like new. The exterior is in good condition. The front bumper has a number of scrapes and dings. The sides have a few, very minor door dings and scratches. All the doors open properly. All the door rubber is good. All the glass is good. If you search the vans history you will see that it has had one accident. An allegedly “texting teenager” ran into the back while on the freeway. She would have only damaged the bumper…, but her car pushed the muffler into the spinning tire and it was then pushed into the upper part of the wheel opening doing some damage (passenger/rear - see pictures). This was professionally repaired in Spring of 2010 at the cost of $3,700+. These repairs included the bumper, tail light lens, wheel opening sheet metal, muffler, pipe, brake line and tire (one). The other three tires have about 35% of their tread left. The van has less than 109,000 miles on it. The engine runs fine. Mazda has a 7,500 mile service interval on the engine. I have changed the oil closer to 5,000 miles each time. There is an intermittent rattle in the exhaust pipe. It is nothing major, but can be heard at times. This van has all the standard features of the LX model. Power – Windows, Door Locks, Mirrors, - Rear Tinted Windows, AM/FM CD Player, Cruise Control, Anti Lock Brakes, Alloy Wheels, A/C with the optional - Rear A/C. All are functioning properly. There are no liens against the van.It is currently on the California Non-Op status. A passing smog certificate was acquired on 5-23-11 and is valid for 90 days from that date. HC measured 1 & 1 on 50 & 34 max. CO measured .01 & .02 on .64 & .77 max. NO measured 107 & 7 on 508 & 761 max. Smog wise the van is very clean. You will note in the report that the van failed and passed smog on the same day. The van actually passed the tail pipe emissions on the first test. However, the battery had been removed for some time and the computer had not seen enough "running time" to do its job. The van was run for an additional duration, re-tested and passed. I will also include the (used) “one day” DMV issued moving permit I used for the smog test. The DMV said they will be asking the buyer how the test was acquired while on Non-Op. Payment by Cashier's check (see "payment") or cash either upon pick up. There is no reserve on this vehicle. This item is Pick Up Only (bring a trailer!!!). Unless prior arrangements are agreed by me, the pick up date must be within 10 days of the auction closing. And, sorry, NO, I won’t end the auction for a private sale. The auction will run its full duration. I reserve the right to cancel bids with less than 5 transactions or feedback that I deem unacceptable. You may view the van if you want (contact me through Ebay email). I am located in Thousand Oaks, CA 91360. I will start the engine, but the van is on Non-Op status and can not be street driven. Please contact me through Ebay email. Thank you for looking.
