Vehicle Detail
In 1963-1964 Mercury put together a car to compete in the NASCAR series. Bill Stroppe prepared the cars and Parnelli Jones was the driver. They took the Marauder to eight major victories in the series in 1964, as well as won the Pikes peak hill climb and set the record in 63 & 64. It was also the 25th aniversery of The Mercury brand, and the company marked the occaision with a that year only paint color option "Bittersweet". The Marauder I have for sale has this color as well as the 25th anniversary steering wheel. I would describe the car as a survivor. I purchased the car from the elderly widow of a farmer. She said the car had been in the family for almost fourty years and that for the last twenty it only came out twice a year for two small town parades. I drove the car home and rebuilt all the brakes and the carb. Thats all it needed. The ONLY rust I can find anywhere on this car is a Quarter size hole on the very top of both rear inner fender wells.I would say that it is a 100% all original matching #'s car with the exception of a re- paint job the old farmer may have done himself. Don't get me wrong, the paint is presentable, it's just about the only thing that didn't come straight from the factory. The chrome and stainlees are all there and in good shape with the exception of the right rear lower chrome looks like it got too close to the garage door and is slightly creased. But unless you look for it you may not even notice. The interior is all original and in excellent condition. All lights, guages, and accessories function as they should. The 390 "special" starts and runs smooth every time with no smoke and lots of power.Oh did I mention this car has only 63,000 original miles? Probably the reason for it's excellent condition. They only made 9600 of the two door fastback model and very few with this paint option. This car comes with the original wheels and hubcaps but, I included a picture of it with my Mustang wheels on it to show you how easy it is to make this a great looking Saturday night cruiser. I'll probably keep the Ford rally wheels, but they're pretty easy to come by if you want that NASCAR look. This car is a great candidate for a full restoration or just a cool driver. I would be confident to drive it most anywhere. There's alot of info on the internet about the history of this car, try ( auto.howstuffworks.com/1963-1964-mercury-marauder.htm), Or, autoswalk.com " World's greatest cars -Mercury, 1964 Marauder" and there is a website/club just for marauder fans. Warranty and VIN decoding is also easy to find. So if you want something from the dawn of the muscle car era that not everybody has, this car is it. I will say that my reserve is very reasonable considering other Marauders I've seen on Ebay. I will need a $500 deposit by Pay pal at auction end and full payment within 7 days. Buyer is responsible for pick up or shipping. Thanks
