Vehicle Detail
"The Droptop From Hell" needs a new home. Read carefully, this is a LONG ad. I've owned this car for six years, done what I wanted to do, and had a blast - Now I'm having more fun restoring classic Datsuns, so it's time for someone else to take over and give her the time and attention she deserves. The build process of this car has been meticulously detailed and posted online in a 10-part series on the largest Nissan forum on the web. This car started out as a pristine, bone-stock S13 convertible (six years ago). It was bought new in Bakersfield, and has never been outside of CA and AZ. Mods were mild at first, then got progressively more radical. This project became something of a "therapeutic outlet" for me during the time my late wife was battling cancer, and I'm pretty sure it kept me sane. My goal was to build the most radical S13 droptop in America, and I think I came close. In choosing the engine, I wanted to prove that a KA-T could make the same (or more) power than an SR and remain reliable. I think we succeeded. Since the car was finished, I've put about 2100 miles on the built KA-T. The brand new T3/T4 Turbonetics has NO miles on it. That's right, ZERO miles. I have not gotten it into boost with the new turbo, because I don't trust the current tune (it's currently using BikiRom). My best estimation is that I have about $27,000 invested in the car. A lot of the work was done by me and a local fabricator, so it'd cost a LOT more than that to replicate it. There's about $6,000 in the engine build alone. It has NOT been on a dyno. My best guess is 350hp. Could be 300, could be 400, never checked, never cared. It's scary-fast & drifts VERY well. It's never been abused, always garaged, and despite some scratches and dings, it's still damn sexy. It is NOT EMISSIONS-LEGAL. I've got it registered and insured with a specialty vehicle policy, and I have a clean title in my name. It does NOT have to go through AZ emissions the way *I* have it registered. I WILL NOT promise you that you'll be able to do it the same as I did. Sorry, not wanting to be rude, but if I don't point it out, I'll get tons of dumb questions. READ that last part again - If you live in an emissions state, it's your responsibility to figure out how to make the tree-huggers happy. It is NOT all-weather friendly. Why? It's a permanent roadster. No top. No windows. No top mechanism. All the hydraulic rams, frame, canvas, switches, wiring, door pillars, etc for that stuff have been removed, totaling approx 400 lbs. Drive in the rain, 2 things will happen: You'll get wet, and you'll get sideways. Cool? It is NOT suitable as a daily driver If you have to ask why, this isn't the toy for you. Seriously. Ok, so it has no top, no traction, it's slammed on bags, the wheels are too big, it's got no A/C, no power windows, it's just obnoxious in general.. What the hell would you DO with this car?If I were keeping it: I'd install a roll bar, sell off the pimp wheels and take it to the track. I'd update the tune, or better yet, go with a standalone. If you are in AZ, I will refer you to the tuner who knows this ECU very well. I'd remove the Skyline HLSD and sell it for a chunk of cash, bolt in a welded diff, and drift the crap out of it. If you've made it this far, you're at least an enthusiast. But rather than try and answer a ton of questions, here's the TEN PART BUILD THREAD for this car - It's VERY detailed, and will give you some insight into the care and effort that went into her build: 1993 240sx - The Droptop From Hell - Please read the WHOLE thing before you ask any questions - It covers the entire build process. ASK ME if you see something I didn't list. What it needs: I believe the tailshaft seal for the trans is shot - Leaked gear oil after sitting for a few months. Re-tune + fluid changes Cut the fenders more if you want to REALLY drop it on its frame Door panels (I have glossy black fiberglass custom ones, but I don't like them - you might.) Traction. Seriously. You're not gonna go lay down an 11-sec 1/4 mile in this car, because there's no weight in the tail... it's VERY tail-happy. I'll be glad to answer any questions about the car, as long as you keep in mind a few things:I've built / restored several other projects since this one was finished. I'm also probably older than you. I may not remember certain details. I'm a busy dude - If you're not "in the market" and a serious buyer, please respect my time.I'm not parting it out. Don't ask. Seriously. I won't take payments. Get a loan. Rob a bank. Sell plasma. Sell your sister. Or a kidney. I don't have time to help you with your 240sx. These guys do : 240sx Club of America I don't care if your sister's boyfriend's uncle's next-door neighbor has the same car for less money. Go buy his. He's probably a crack dealer. I'm really, really not interested in reading your email if you have difficulty communicating clearly. I'm sorry. Have someone translate for you. I will NOT call you. Don't ask. I *might* let you call me, once we've established that you're a serious potential buyer. Lastly, I'm NOT offering joyrides. I won't be driving this car hard until it has had a re-tune, and neither will a potential buyer. If that doesn't work for you, I'm sorry. Maybe someone else will let you abuse their car. I won't. I can store the car for a while if you'd like to do a deposit (non-refundable, for obvious reasons). I MAY consider trades - I have TEN cars. I don't NEED another one. I NEED garage space. However, I MAY consider a partial trade for a classic Datsun, *OR* something cool, unique, newer, etc... Email me with your trade offer, you might get lucky! Please don't be offended if I don't respond, or if I say, "No thanks". If it's something that interests me, I WILL respond. If I don't think your car is worth as much as this one, I'll be honest. If you don't like my response, you're under no obligation to respond, unless it's to make me a better offer. Cool? I'm sorry I have to be that way, but some people act ridiculous, and I don't have the patience for it. If you've read all this, and you're STILL interested or have questions, please email me. Let's find this gal a new home! Best wishes and thanks for reading this far!!!
