Vehicle Detail

I purchased this cool diesel wagon after a lengthy search. I needed a vehicle that did all these things: seats 4-6 people diesel, for conversion to veggie, and for durability could be slept in comfortably for road-trips and tours And this Volvo station wagon was the only vehicle which satisfied my criteria at a good price, the looks and neat paint-job being pluses. It even fits me, at 6'4". I found only two in the entire nation, and flew to Seattle to buy this one and drive it the 1,763 miles down to Santa Fe. First thing, I had all the work listed below done at a local Foreign Auto Tech, and it has given me no problems since. I decided to sell her because I am leaving this October for the military, and won't be needing it. I will use the funds from the car to travel until I ship to boot-camp. If I had more time, I would restore it further (it doesn't need much) and covert it into a small vegetable-fuel mobile home. If this sounds like a cool project to you, let me know how it turns out! I have laid out below everything wrong with the car, found through my own poking around, and an inspection from a mechanic at FAST in Santa Fe, NM. The Bad: Brake vacuum pump needs replaced Rear brake-light out (replacement bulb included) Needs fuse for wipers/horn Overdrive nonfunctional (relay works, probably wiring within shifter or solenoid) (This means gears 1-4, plus weak reverse) Heater needs replaced Total price of fixes: $200-300. Overdrive and vacuum pump could be done in a few hours, the heater is more trouble but only if you need it. The Good: New heavy-duty battery with warranty New tie-rod ends Runs full synthetic oil New timing belt, rollers and pulleys New gaskets and seals (valve cover, cam, int. shaft, front crank) Fresh coolant, just flushed New water pump Total value of parts and repairs: $1,200 This is a rare vehicle, and with such few miles may be the only one of its kind in all of America. All others I've seen have miles from 300k to 450k miles (a testament to the quality of the Diesel engines in them). I hope this car goes to someone who will do the last few things, and do something worthy of its uniquely cool and kitschy vibe.
