Vehicle Detail
Drive electric now and in style with this rare production built, fully electric Ford Ranger EV. This truck is an original Electric Vehicle (EV) built by Ford Motor Company at its Edison, New Jersey plant. This is not a hybrid, conversion vehicle or early prototype built by TDM. About 1500 of these were built of which only about 300 have survived, as seen in the movie "Who Killed the Electric Car". These were mainly lease vehicles and Ford took them back and destroyed them after about three years as they were in a lawsuit with California over the law that was to require 10% of all cars sold in California to be Zero Emission. This one was saved as it was actually owned by California State University Channel Islands. For more info/history on these Rangers, please visit http://www.fordrangerev.com/ . This model has the 8 volt lead-acid battery pack. Last summer the truck batteries stopped taking a charge from our DS50 charger which is included in this sale. Lithium Ion batteries are now available for this truck as there is an active community so information is readily available through the REVolt website http://www.fordrangerev.com/Home.html . There are several people who are willing to do the battery pack swap-out and I can supply that information. I would recommend replacing with 12 volt lead acid batteries for a 40 mile range, or upgrading to Lithium-ion for about 100 mile range. The Drive System is a Seimens AC Induction Motor (90 HP) with single speed reduction differential, all located on the DeDion rear axle. Traction Motor: Type 1 PV5133-4WS20 W11 F8Y8-148280-AC S/N M297 7189 10 016 Rated Battery Voltage 250 V Made by Siemens AG in Germany Electric Transaxle YL5P-7002-AA S/N 400211 Made by Getrag Gears of North America Performance: An estimated 0-50 MPH in 12 seconds, top speed about 80 MPH, freeway compatible. This truck was used as the grounds keeper's truck at Cal State Univ Channel Islands hence the damage to the tailgate and the scuffs in the bed. With a little work and investment, this can be an amazing daily driver/work truck and will surely appreciate in value as it is a very important piece of history and one of only a few of the first new wave of production electric cars that survived the auto companies and oil companies efforts to stop the electric car revolution. I purchased my truck three years ago and I'd love to keep it, limited time and lack of money means I must begrudgingly sell this gem. This has always been a California car and has the Zero Emission Vehicle White Tags so it's legal to go in HOV lanes with only one person in the car and can park in electric vehicle parking spots without paying for parking and has a parking sticker so can park at metered parking spots for free. Condition: Very clean, very low miles (16,941 miles), garage kept. Air Conditioner working great , Dent in rear tailgate. History: 2nd owner (California State University Channel Islands and me) Shipping: Buyer responsible for shipping. Sale also includes service manuals, Garage 220 volt DS50 charger, and Ford Ranger EV Flashcard that is used with the NGS Factory Diagnostics Equipment ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ford Authorized Ranger EV Service Facilities: DEALERSHIP STATE NAME CITY PHONE # Arizona Ford of N. The batteries are the original ones for the truck so are eleven years old. Other people who have similar Ranger EVs have tried to just replace a couple of batteries and find that is will only last a short time until another one fails. Best to replace all with either 25 Odyssey 12v batteries which run about $110 each or with the new lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries. The old batteries are still good enough to use as backup batteries for a solar panel system so probably could be sold. They are really awesome batteries to have latest eleven years. From the Ranger EV website: "Recent battery technology has developed Lithium based Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) that offers extended range from a pack that is lighter than the Lead at almost the same cost. Most of the hybrid vehicles being sold today utilize NiMH batteries, but all of the newest designs utilize LiFePO4. This is the battery technology for today and the Ranger EV community is working hard to make this technology a plug-n-play option for both PbA and NiMH Ranger EV owners." There are at least six of these Ranger's now running on the LiFePO4 batteries. People have been putting in various quantities for a range from 40 miles to up to 100 miles depending what they need for range and what they can afford in batteries. I think that the price for enough batteries to go 100 miles is about $8500, The price continues to drop as time goes by.On May-24-11 at 04:24:19 PDT, seller added the following information: The only other problem I have had other than the batteries dying was the water pump. This was replaced about two years ago with an upgraded brushless Bosch water pump. This was a known problem with the truck and once upgraded, the new water pumps have been trouble-free. Otherwise the truck has been trouble-free. The regenerative brakes mean that the brake pads don't have to work nearly as hard so pads last a long time. No oil changes to worry about, no air filter, no spark plugs, distributer etc.
