1960 Austin Healey 3000 MK I BT7 The new Austin-Healey went into production in 1953 and was immediately popular in the U.S. The cars were well-styled, inexpensive, rugged and above all easy to drive, for both the sports car enthusiast who fancied some light competition or just for tooling down to the shops. The early four-cylinder cars were superseded by a six-cylinder model in 1956, appropriately named the 100/Six, and these stayed in production until 1959, when the engine was enlarged to 2,912 cc, hence the name Austin-Healey 3000. These were more powerful and faster, equipped with front disc brakes, and soon gave rise to the legend of the Big Healey. The Austin Healey 3000 was one of the most successful family sports cars of its generation, winning rallies around the globe. Up for auction is legendary 1960 Austin Healey 3000 MK I BT7 in need of completion of total restoration. The original 3000 was built from March 1959 to March 1961 and has model designation BT7 MkI (4-seat version) and BN7 MkI (2-seater).During the 2 year production span of Austin Healey 3000 MKI there was only 10,825 BT7’s made and this beauty is one of them!! The original Austin Healey 3000 has a 2912 cc I6 engine, with twin SU carburetors and Girling front disc brakes. It was only referred to as the Mark I after the Mark II was released, previously only being known as the 3000. Wire wheels, overdrive gearbox, a laminated windscreen, a heater, an adjustable steering column, a detachable hard top and two tone paint were all available as options. They became one of the most popular exports to America as they suited the American market with both speed and glamour included. Today “Big Healey” has become the collectors and restorers favorite, and perfect examples are at premium prices, costing upward of $60,000. This Big Healey has the same owner since 1977, and it was parked to be restored few years ago. Car was taken apart completely, and restoration started. All body work was done, along with the engine being rebuilt with new rings, bearings, timing chain, etc. Front suspension was rebuilt as well. Car is very nice and solid now, including the frame, outriggers, wheel wells, trunk, etc, and it just needs to be put together. Doors, hood, and trunk lid are all operating with ease. Chrome is like new, dings and dents free. This car has been Florida car its whole life, and it shows.. Like mentioned before car was completely disassembled and its original parts were neatly stored into boxes (chrome trim pieces, harnesses, nuts, bolts, starter, brakes, heater, etc…) (please see pictures). Engine and transmission were installed in the car just for the ease of transportation, but they will need to be re-torqued. For the most part everything is there, but I’m sure it will be missing some odd and end pieces but they are easy to find and you can find a lot of parts for the Healey’s at www.mossmotors.com . Speedometer is in KM/h and it is showing 94,271KILOMETERS (58,577 miles)!! Car now does roll and steer without any problems. It also comes with manual transmission with Electric Overdrive Option. This beautiful antique Austin Healey will only continue to appreciate in its value, and with time, these cars are harder and harder to come by. These British Roadsters fully restored will easily go $60,000 +!!!! This car is great investment, which will only continue to appreciate in its value, definitively better than any stock at this time!!!!!
