NOTICE TO ANY WATCHERS: INFO HAS BEEN ADDED - PLEASE READ AGAIN 1989 MITSUBISHI MONTERO 2 dr. V6 3.0 – RUNS BUT BEST FOR REPAIR OR PARTS: This is one of the classic first generation Monteros - rugged, durable and worth the trouble both to repair and for parts. Been driving these for 17 years both city and dirt. It runs, has power, handles really well, slides into 4WD no problem, stops on a dime. It also blows some smoke (probably a head & maybe rings so needs oil), the frame has a couple of rust holes that I can see (approx. 2"x3"), has a water leak on passenger side (not sure of source), it needs 2 bumper corners (1 for rear, 1 for front) and there is some rust on front fender corners and one rocker panel (see pics). If not interested in repair, it's an excellent source for original parts which are hard to find for these vehicles. Mileage is 186,236. It has no title since VT doesn't require titling for vehicles 15 years or older, and it has no plates. But can be driven - I was driving it regularly until I got a replacement. See below for all work done and specific condition. Repairs done over last 3 years: Rebuilt one of the heads New brakes, drums, rotors (within the last year) New muffler New rotor and distributor cap Fixed some electrical New heater core New oil pump New front wheel bearings New fuel lines New power steering lines New 4-way flasher switch Welded in floor panels New headlight valances (one installed, one include w/vehicle) What Works: Just about everything Sat all winter w/out being started but started right away recently 4WD performs perfectly Tires have at least 1 year of tread left All dash controls work except Gate Lock/Unlock (for rear door) Original radio & cassette player – cassette doesn’t work Transmission good – 2nd gear occasionally grinds Interior is very good – seats not worn, ceiling only 2 small holes Includes back seat Heater works well – no a/c but set up for it All fans work well Tilt steering still tilts Still has impressive power – compression still good Has a tow hitch A lot to be said for this vehicle at this price.
