Vehicle Detail

Here we have my beautiful 1950 Mercury. I have always wanted one of these cars for as long as I can remember, well in reality since I saw James Dean race one in 'Rebel without a cause'. I have enjoyed her and taken her to car shows, basically had a blast using her as she was meant for! From the history I have, she originally came from Denver, Colorado where I bought her from the last owner, one of the original hot roders from the 50's. He owned the car for many, many years and did the work himself. This 50 Merc was done right to 1950's specs. As you can see from the pictures and videos she was never chopped (I still don't understand why people do that) So her roof height is as original as when it came from the factory. the only body modifications that have been done are the Frenching of the headlights, removal of the antenna (now residing under the car) and removal of the front and rear chrome pieces. The grill is original and the hubcaps are 58 caddy with bulletnose. She is also sporting window side lollypop mirrors and original (and quite rare) Mercury side spotlights (Also known as cop spotlights) The paint is around 25 to 30 years old and it has a few blemishes, chips, and the door paint on the inside has worn down form over fifty years of forearms resting on it! but overall all it is in good shape for its age. The color is original two tone the only change to the paint was the trunk color which was painted to match the top color around 30 years ago. The fender skirts are in great shape and original to the car. She has always been kept garaged except for that last couple of days when she has been out of my warehouse for the pictures and video. Inside its a time warp. She has the original dash column shift and steering wheel. The column shift is the smoothest I have ever used and you can see it working on the video. This car is a pleasure to drive. And it even has the rare overdrive so hitting 80 on the highway is a leisure affair... Everything else was kept as it would have been in the 50's which from many of the Mercs I see out there its a nice change to see originality. Mechanically I just did a run-through and everything runs perfect. Biggest replacement so far has been a new tank. Again, check out the video. The windshield was a bit dirty don't know why I did not see it earlier so it is not chips in the glass just dirt. The engine is an original flathead V8, again I love the original flat heads with Edelbrock heads which look fantastic! Check out the pictures. She is also still a 6 Volt, sticking to that original 1950's Hot Rod mantra. She has also been dropped two in the front three in the back and with those original fender skirts really looks the part. The only issues with this car are as follows: Speedo is not reading (it was a few weeks ago so I have to check that out). Left turn signal will need to be re-chromed. Drivers side window has a crack. As stated earlier the paint is around 30 years old so there is some ware on the door tops (where you rest your arm) and a few chips, worst being far rear right side and rear hood corners. Under the car looks great. As it is always said... a picture is worth a thousand words and with video you can triple that count. Please check out the video link below.
