Vehicle Detail

Hi, For your consideration is this 1975 Datsun 280Z. I will say up front.. This car is not as nice as the pics may indicate. That being said, it is a virtually rust free car out of the Vegas area. It also shows no signs of previous collision. Ive owned many Datsuns and I am going to try to cover the car in words and pics that I would want to see and know. So, look at the pics closely, ask all the questions you want.. come look if you desire.. and bid to own this car! Body/Paint and Rust: Again, the car shows no signs of previous collision. The paint work actually looks better (in real life or in pics) than it is. It has a nice finish, shiny, smooth. It does not appear to be slathered in bondo.. But does appear to have been painted without dealing with door dings, also it does not appear to have been primed.. You can see several spots where the red paint has come off exposing the previous yellow color. The car was originally brown, champagne I think. The common rust spots look solid on this car. I did not get a shot of the battery area, as there is so much in the way to clearly see it.. I haven't had the battery out of it, but putting my eyeball down in there, it looks as clean as you could hope for. I did take a shot from the underside of the battery/frame rail. Floors look good. Passenger side has a small hole (see pic). It seems water is getting in on this side somewhere. It is somewhat soft around this hole that is approx 1.5" in diameter. I dont think you could push through, as I put considerable force on it.. slightly soft there. On the drivers side floor, you see a patch.. I believe this patch was not put there because of rust, but maybe a rock or something tore through the metal. Ive included a pic of both sides of this area, you can see some epoxy around the bottom side, and can see there is not a rust problem there. Spare tire well is clean, and true.. round. Other common areas are clean.. Body panel fitment is actually very good. Anything you want to see, let me know. Interior: Seats have been recovered. Carpet kit looks new, but needs final fit up front. Also, needs door sills and thresholds.. MSA carries these NOS and are very reasonable. Spare tire, tool kit, intact, but missing hardboard over tire. I believe all lights and accessories work. Heater is bypassed. Temp gauge inoperable. I will try to put a new sensor in. All other gauges are working. Windows roll up and down, doors operate well. Drivers door lock, pull has fallen down. Mechanical: Again, I will be honest. I have never seen a Z exhibit a external leak from the head gasket, but I witnessed this one doing that.. Odd. Not a difficult job on these cars.. The leak seemed to only be present when cranking the motor. I opted to try a bottle of Bars leak head gasket repair.. Well, it seems to have worked! But you should know, this is what I did. The previous owner installed several new parts.. New radiator, is not correctly mounted. As I mentioned the cars temp gauge is not working, however I dont believe it is getting hot.. It is not smoking, and there has never been any antifreeze mixed with the oil, or visa versa. The motor has no ugly noises.. It actually sounds really good, and pulls well. It is tough starting a cold morning though. The transmission works well, as does the clutch. The suspension.. Seems that the struts are good. Front end does not excessive play, with the exception of the rack bushings.. These are very easy to replace, if I have some in the garage, I will try to change out.. These will make a giant improvement. I have never seen rack bushings fit so loosely as the ones that are on it, you can see the rack moving around when moving the wheel back and forth. So, in short, a very small, cheap repair in the front end would make this car go down the road well. Tires are older and dry rotted. This car was driven from Vegas to Salt Lake (450 miles) a few months ago. Its a Datsun.. Virtually unstoppable.. So, It would probably make it across the country in its current state.. Maybe not a great idea though. That is for you to decide. On Apr-24-11 at 06:58:16 PDT, seller added the following information: This is a 1976 280Z.. I just looked at the door tag.. 2/76. Also, the car comes with a rear bumper (wrapped up from previous owner purchasing it on ebay), condition unknown. Comes with a box of parts including rubber bumper pieces, misc.. Car interior is missing headliner. Title is clear, and in previous owners name... Nevada title. Does not need to be in my name to sell. Car is not currently registered.
