This Jeep has been my project for some time but I can safely say that I do not have the money to make it what it could be. This is an original 2.1 Turbo diesel Renault powered XJ cherokee. The motor and transmission were rescued out of an origional 1986 Cherokee that I found in a field. It had been sideswiped at only about 72,000 miles (have original service records including original 1986 window sticker from the 1986). There is still much to go in the project phase on this truck. I will be as forthcomming as possible with this vehicle as I am a major Jeep fan. Pros: 1) New clutch 2) 4 new tires (kuhmo 235/80-15) 3) Clean title 4) New Windshield 4) New Bosch Duratherm glow plugs 5) Recent battery (a larger battery may help though) 6) New fuel filter 7) New brake hoses and K&N air filter have not been installed yet but are included 8) Chrome bumpers included but not installed - grille and extra headlight also included 9) Currently runs pretty good 10) Has new timing belt and tensioner - comes with spare belt 11) New front pump seal was installed at same time as timing belt was done 12) New water pump Cons: 1) Needs a rear pinion bearing - makes noise going down the freeway 2) Has power steering fluid leak - I believe at the pressure line 3) No front driveshaft - has NP207 transfer case that does shift OK 4) Does not have front inner door panels 5) Does not start well cold - probably needs fuel injectors and may need injector pump rebuild 6) Using a different radiator - cools fine but has hood clearance issue (hood does not close all the way on its latch) 7) Obviously the body and interior are slightly shabby. Definitely not a rust bucket though. 8) Slightly cranky about cold starting 9) Missing transfer case shift linkage 10) Blower motor and climate control is generally not hooked up. Overall this project mostly needs some attention to make the details come together. It was a conversion from a V6 chassis to the diesel. I did not have all of the parts needed to make it a perfect conversion but somebody with more time and money to chase the parts and do the work correctly would have a really nice, unique project.
