Another great find! This is a 1978 Volkswagen Westfalia Van up for bidding at NO RESERVE. I acquired this van locally to sell and presents a great opportunity for a new owner to possibly restore (or not) and enjoy. I want to state the obvious in that this is no museum showpiece nor do I intend to list it as one, but it has the some of the best potential of what you'll be able to find online. I have taken every precaution with pictures, descriptions, and a professional inspection to present the good and not so good. The inspection was done by one of the most reputable Volkswagen repair shops in Houston, Herr Schmidts, on 4/22/2011 and they gave the van an overall good report. I'm happy to share those findings below. Let's start with the good aspects. It runs very well. The engine and transmission are mechanically sound. The odemeter reads 9194, but can't confirm when it turned over. The tires have plenty of tread left. It does have a neat aftermarket push button start. The body has been painted from green to yellow but is straight without major damage and all the glass is in tact. The main carpet area is in fair condition. The upholstery on the main bedding and top bedding are in very good condition. There are no foul, smoke, or pet odors. The van is approximately 90% complete on the interior and exterior. It is equipped with a sink, tank, and portable Coleman stove. It has a clean Texas title and the inspection is good until 7/11. Overall, it is very functional and could very well be used and enjoyed before or during any type of restoration or rebuild. Let's move on with the not so good. Mechanically, there is a slight leak on the valve cover gaskets, nothing major according to the report. The left rear wheel cylinder is leaking and the ball joints will need to be replaced. There are some rust issues as you can see in the pictures along some of the window seals and front passenger door. The cabinets are delaminating in some areas. The front carpet is worn and the cover for the floorboard are that cover up the wiring is missing. The top camper canvas was removed due to wear and needs a replacement. Lastly, the front seats are worn and there are some trim handles needed for the top camper and cabinets. As I mentioned, this is a no reserve auction. Please bid only if you intend to buy it. As with all of my auctions, I have described it as accurately as I can both good and bad to save us both from wasting time and money. I would much rather have the winning bidder pleasantly suprised than grossly dissappointed upon arrival. Please do not assume anything, ask any and all questions and I will answer them promptly.
