Vehicle Detail
1988 Mercedes Benz 420SEL Long wheelbase W126 S Class Please scroll down to view all photos and the complete description! Up for auction is an honest, original 1988 Mercedes Benz 420 SEL with only 69,400 miles. It is certainly rare to find a S Class Mercedes in this condition. The condition of the car accurately reflects the mileage both mechanically and cosmetically, inside and out. There is absolutely no rust anywhere on this car, including the floors, rocker panels, trunk, etc. The paint appears to be largely original and shows nicely. There are a few imperfections you might expect with age, but it is very nice overall. The Interior is near perfect. Grey leather interior has no rips, cracks, or major visible wear at all. The wood has no cracks and is still dark in color. Steering wheel feels perfect and shows no wear. All instruments work correctly, along with the radio and climate control. The air conditioning blows cold and is still running on R12 freon. The cruise control works well. All four power windows work correctly, as does the sunroof when sliding back or popping up. However, the automatic wind deflector does not pop up by itself, which is a fairly common fault. Engine runs well without any knocking or tapping. It never runs hot and has excellent oil pressure. Transmissions shifts correctly in all conditions and does not slip or flare. The kickdown solenoid downshifts the transmission as designed. On the road, the car has good power and is ready for driving long distances. I would not hesitate to take this car on a long road trip. The suspension has no major major faults with no clunking, etc. There is a bit of play in the steering, as is common for these models. Its not excessive in any way, but I did notice it so I wanted to mention it here. The car stops straight and as expected. The car has recent matching Michelin MXV4 tires mounted to original wheels. Recent work includes new battery, water pump replacement, transmission service, rear brakes, and regular oil changes. Some service records are included dating back many years. All original documentation and manuals are included as is the original window sticker and data plate. About this auction: Lets be realistic here. This is not a restored car, but an excellent example of an original car. Please expect to find minor defects if you look hard enough. I have done my best to accurately represent the vehicle to the best of my ability. I recommend any serious buyers to contact me to arrange a viewing of the car in person to ensure there are no surprises or unrealistic expectations. I personally feel this is one the nicest W126 S Classes you will find available for sale. I'm listing this for a friend of mine, so this isn't my car. The description in this auction is based on my experience with the car over several days along with information from the owner. The car has a clean New Jersey title without any lien. The car is currently registered and insured with valid New Jersey inspection. The winning bidder is expected to contact me within 24 hours of the end of the auction to arrange the completion of the sale. Sale should be completed within one week of the auction close, unless special arrangements are made in advance. Payment should be made in cash. About me: I'm a long-time Mercedes Benz enthusiast with a passion for cars just like this. I have quite a bit of experience with Mercedes of this generation and am very familiar with their operation, design, and repair. These cars are my hobby, but I do work as a quality engineer in the automotive industry. I'm always on the lookout for original cars in unmolested condition like this one. If I had the space, I'd keep it myself... instead, I'm helping to sell it.
