Vehicle Detail
I will attempt to tell you everything I know about this car. Up for sale is a 1994 Ford Thunderbird LX V-8 - this was my personal car. Photos were taken April 4, 2011. It is well-equipped with automatic transmission, independent rear suspension, automatic climate control, AM-FM cassette stereo, automatic on-off headlights, remote locking gas door, remote trunk release, tilt wheel, cruise, power steering, power front disc brakes, power windows and locks, cupholder console, and gray cloth interior. It is powered by the 4.6L V-8, which is a great engine which gives long reliable service but is easy on gas. This car has low mileage and no accident history, and it is a rust-free southern car - you may check the vehicle history report (Experian, Carfax, etc) to confirm. The body is very straight and the frame is true. The engine compartment is clean and the car runs and shifts as it should - this car can be driven anywhere with confidence. The paint is still very presentable but not perfect - the paint is peeling on the front bumper (pictured, this is common on these) and the car has a scuff on the passenger's side which is hard to see in the picture, but it is there. It also has a few pebble-size dents and minor scratches. There is some peeling of the black paint around the rear window trim (this is also common on these cars). The interior is very nice but not perfect, with a few minor stains on the seats and carpet. The trunk is very clean, and the tires are in good condition with many miles left. This particular Thunderbird formerly belonged to an older gentleman who bought it in 1997, kept it in his attached garage, and did not have the license plates (tags) renewed since 2002. During that time he kept it stored in the garage and kept it limbered up by driving it up and down his long driveway. If this sounds like a tall tale, the vehicle history report will support this story, as it shows no registration from 2002 until 2011. When I purchased it, it still had a 2003-expiration license plate sticker and a 2003-expiration safety inspection sticker. I purchased the car on January 1, 2011 for use while my Acura NSX was in the shop for a long and expensive stay. ALL fluids in this Thunderbird were replaced at that time, and the front brakes and rotors were replaced as well, in addition to new heavy duty spark wires, a tune-up, and a fresh battery. The car recently passed both Virginia safety inspection and emissions testing and accordingly both of those are current. The driver's door usually sags on these Thunderbirds, but not this one: I had the driver's side door hinge overhauled and accordingly the door closes nicely. The automatic climate control works properly and the AC blows cold - I drove this car to work recently and ran the AC on the way home. Here is an important tip: When you look at these Thunderbirds for sale, look at the trip odometer. If the trip odometer reads zero, it almost always means the odometer is not working. Most sellers don't point this out, and just say the odometer reads whatever, and leave it at that, without bothering to disclose the odometer defect. (I have learned that in life that many people deceive you by what they DON'T say.) The odometer on this particular Thunderbird stopped working about three months ago (speedometer still works fine). This is common on this type of Thunderbird - a small plastic gear in the odometer is brittle and breaks, causing the odometer to stop working. Since it stopped working, I have been counting tanks of gas so as to have a reasonable estimate of the current mileage. Since then, I have went through eight tanks of gas, at 300 miles a tank, so I am adding 2400 miles to the odometer mileage of 84860, to arrive at a best estimate of current mileage of 87,260 miles. Also, the ignition key doesn't match the trunk lock, but you can open the trunk from inside the car via the remote trunk release button. This Thunderbird LX is very comfortable and quiet with a somewhat soft, plush ride. The engine in these is very durable and reliable and many of them go over 200,000 miles. The car generates very little wind noise on the highway, as it was designed to be very aerodynamic - I really enjoy the quietness of it. The trunk is huge, the back seat is roomy as well, and the driver/passenger area is very nice with well-integrated dash and door panels. The instrumentation is oriented toward the driver and it is equipped with front bucket seats, cockpit-style. So if it is so nice, why am I selling it? I bought a new Mustang convertible, and I don't need two cars plus a Honda Gold Wing. Still, I will miss this Thunderbird when it is gone. :( If you need to fly in, I live near Washington Dulles airport and can pick you up. This Thunderbird is in wonderful mechanical condition and can be driven back to your state with complete confidence. I hold a clear Virginia title on this car, with no liens. I am an honest and dependable seller, and I have represented the car fairly, accurately, and to the best of my knowledge. Check my feedback and buy with confidence!
