Vehicle Detail

1947 Volvo PV-60 sedan Serial No. 60-1387 Odometer reading 64,000 kilometers This neat little car was restored by a local Volvo dealer about 30 years ago from a very solid original car. It was put on display at Boothbay Railway Village in Maine shortly after that. The owner subsequently donated the Volvo to the Museum. The PV-60 was Volvo’s first post-war model. 3,506 were built from 1946 through 1950; 500 of those were in chassis form for van and truck bodies. For an idea of size, it sits on a 112” wheelbase. The dark red paint is slightly lighter than what shows in the door jambs. The paint is good but not show quality. Chrome is very good. Bumpers are straight. I don’t see any obviously missing pieces. Tires are 6.50 x 16. They have good tread but show some minor weather cracking. Tires are not a matched set. The white walls on the rear are “porta-walls”, not part of the tire. Under the hood is a 6-cylinder engine. 3670 cc (223 cid), about 90 horsepower depending on what source you want to believe. 3-speed manual transmission, column shifter and overdrive. I’ve not run it on the road to test the overdrive but There are no obvious external problems that would prevent it from operating. Brakes are hydraulic. The wheel cylinders have just been replaced; shoes are nearly new. It looked like the brakes were new when the car was restored but sitting for all those years did in the wheel cylinders. Brakes are OK but still need some final adjusting that I’ve not had time to do. All the gauges work. While running it at our shop, it does not seem to overheat; holds good oi pressure and the charging system is working. The battery is new (6-volt system). The big failing is the interior. The car was attacked by moths during storage and has suffered significant damage. The interior will need to be redone. This Volvo is being sold to benefit the Boothbay Railway Village in Boothbay Maine. You can take a look at railwayvillage.org. Take a look at the Antique Automobile exhibit listing. It’s a really neat Museum for Railroad and automobile enthusiasts. All the proceeds from this sale will go toward improvements in the Antique Automobile Exhibit Building. We do not have a Maine title for this vehicle, Maine is an EXEMPT state for titles for antique vehicles. I DO HAVE a Maine transfer of ownership, MVT-16, which will be signed over to the new owner from the Boothbay Railway Museum. We have sold cars all over the world with a MVT-16. If you are outside the U.S. please contact us before bidding. A $1000.00 deposit is required within 48 hrs. of auction close. Buyer is responsible for all shipping arrangements.
