Vehicle Detail
1973 Porsche 911E Targa 87,000 miles I am the third owner of this 911E with: VIN 9113210509 Engine number: 6230945 I do not have the transmission number handy, and I won’t be able to get it before the auction ends. I totally believe it to be original to the car. The Porsche Maintenance Record book verifies these numbers to be original to the car. The records indicate the first owner purchased the car new from Falmouth Porsche of Portland, Maine on March 13, 1973. On July 28th, 1975 he appears to have traded the car in with 32,800 miles on it. The second owner, a doctor from Cumberland, Maine, purchased the car on August 5th, 1975. The Doctor drove the car on and off until 1993, when it was literally put in a barn with a weak clutch with 86288 miles on it. The car sat in the barn until February of 2007 (fourteen years), when I bought the car, through a broker for the Doctor. With a little bit of work, I made the car drivable and used it every day for about two months during the summer of 2007. During the fall and winter of 2007 I had the car stripped and repainted. The only rust on the entire car was in an unusual spot under the inner rocker panel. I sourced a new inner rocker from Stoddard Porsche and had it replaced. Every other piece of sheet metal on the car is original!!! The repaint is a full on glass out job with all new rubber seals. This car is laser straight. The gaps are perfect. The pictures actually don’t do the car justice! The car is in its original tangerine color. It has always been tangerine. The wheels are the original cookie cutter wheels that were stock for the 1973 911E. The pictures don’t show it, but I have the spare tire, and it is included. It is the same as the wheels and tires on the car. The tires are virtually new. (950 miles exactly) The transmission is the original 915 with four speeds, this is the stock transmission for a 1973 911E. Not a five speed like most. The five speed was an option that most buyers opted for. The new leather sport seats are not original to the car! The padding of the original driver’s seat was eaten by barn mice. These are from 1970 or 1971; they do not have the double lock track. The seats were just restored by Tony at Autobahn interiors in San Diego, CA. The carpet is new from World Upholstery. It is the ORIGINAL Haargarn factory carpet material. (Expensive) The radio is stock, original to the car, and yes it plays! All the gages work. The door pockets are original with all of their aluminum trim intact! The engine is in great shape. It doesn’t appear to have ever been opened up. Leakdown was done 950 miles ago and was typically 5% or less. There are no leaks, smoke, or unusual noises. It pulls hard all the way to redline. There are no upgrades. It is as original and unmolested as you will find. The transmission is just like the engine: original, stock, no leaks. The synchros are fine. No grinding. It goes into all gears great. The shifter bushings were replaced. The clutch was replaced at 950 miles ago. The brakes were rebuilt; including calipers, new pads, and stainless lines. The car stops straight! I do not have the second battery for the car. It died, and they are getting harder to find. The car starts fine on one battery anyway. The oil tank is from a 1974. The original tank lost a lower fitting in a towing mishap before I bought the car. I will include the original tank. It can be easily repaired. The glass is all near perfect. There is new trunk carpet with the car. I never put it in because I thought the trunk looks too good to cover up. The underneath of the car was rustproofed back in the day, I cleaned a lot of it off the engine, transmission, and suspension. As you can see, there is plenty left. The Tuff-Kote Dinol sticker is still in the passenger vent window, and most of the rustproofing hole plugs were saved and restored. I am selling the car because I have bought a race Porsche 911E and I am going racing. In fairness to all, I will not end the auction early, I do not have a buy-it-now price, and there is absolutely no reserve. The high bidder will own this car! The race season starts soon, so please have all your ducks in a row before bidding on this beautiful car.
