Vehicle Detail

1959 Chevrolet Bel Air/ Impala. There is no VIN but the serial number is F59B 251811. All the parts are original and match. This car was kept under a tarp for the last 10 years and is in fairly good shape for its age. It was a 1 owner car and all the original paperwork(title, Dealer sales invoice, manual, maintenance, etc) is included. The floors and frame are solid. The engine was rebuilt in 6/1992 and there is currently less than 100 miles on the rebuilt. You can see in the pics that the oil and antifreeze are still good. It was last Virgina inspected and driven in 2000. I tried to include pictures of everything (and if you want more I have them, just ask) but if you have questions please ask and I will do my best to answer them. The buyer is responsible for moving / picking up the car. One of the front tires is flat but we can mount one of the spares which are good. The car is dirty from sitting and I have done no type of cleaning. The paint is fairly good and the inside just needs a good cleaning to get it back in shape. The original dealer invoice lists the following options installed: Factory Installed: Powerglide Airflow heater Electric wipers Oil FIlter WHite wall tires Tutone Wheel discs Dealer Installed: Fendix Rear seat speaker Push button Radio Non-glare mirror Outside mirror Grill guard Back up lights On Apr-04-11 at 16:15:56 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE: Due to many questions regarding the the following, the answers are - Vin on the door reads "Chevrolet F 59B251811" The car has 91,169 original miles with 100 miles on the original engine (rebuilt in 1992).On Apr-11-11 at 05:23:27 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE: We have more pictures of the underside and trunk, just ask and I'll email them to you. I can't add anymore to the listing. Also trickle charged the battery enough that we could tell the electrical system is good. Heater fan blows low, med, high, turn signals, hazards work, lights on the dash (gen, oil) work, gas gauge and other gauges work. The engine does turn over with the trickle charge charging the battery for a few minutes, just turns over slowly due to a weak battery. On Apr-11-11 at 14:25:48 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE: It is now running!! New battery, plugs, and cleaned the fuel filter. The gas tank was full of old gas (10 yrs?) so the lines were gummed up some, but we drained the tank and put in fresh fuel. A little TLC and it fired up. It went in drive and reverse with no problems. The tires were inflated or replaced so all the tires hold air now. The fuel lines and carb could use a good cleaning and the gas pedal is sticky, I assume due to the old fuel gumming up the carb. We also found the original key chain from Wissinger Chevrolet in Alexandria, Virginia whee the car was originally purchased in 1959. They are however no longer there. On Apr-12-11 at 17:20:01 PDT, seller added the following information: SOME MORE HISTORICAL INFO: From a new friend and another collector. Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE From the information presented your car was one of the last production Chevrolets built at the Baltimore Assembly Division Plant- and if I had to guess, it was built in the final week of July, 1959. This helps to explain why your car was still sitting on the lot in Falls Church and was a late-model year purchase in late September- just prior to the introduction of the 1960 models in mid-October of 1959. The date codes upon disassembly of the car will reveal this (such as the FEDERAN interior upholstery manufacturing supplier date code stampings on the interior cardboard door panels; date code on the back of the washer pump if equipped; date code on the back of the cast iron exhaust manifolds, etc). The serial number shows it is the 151,811th Chevrolet built in Baltimore, which makes it a very late production car near the end of the production year on 31 July 1959. By the serial numbers used at each assembly Division Plant, production began at "100000." Thus your VIN number is F59B251811. When production rolled over 100,000 units, the VINs rolled over to "200000." So 100000 plus 151,811 gives your VIN of 251811. "B" stands for "Baltimore." It is the closest plant to Falls Church, Virginia, so that's no surprise. Other lesser-known hints of a very late production include the front seat vinyl cloth seams (sewn diagonally in the center); and late in the production year, the rear seat ashtrays on the armrests were changed from "sliding doors" to "flip top" hinged doors on both sides. Your car is equipped with the 283 cubic-inch-displacement V8; and Powerglide transmission; and has the Two-Tone Gothic Gold and Satin Beige paint combination- a sharp color combination when new and a popular one which really dressed up these cars another notch visually. Also, 1959 was the first year for the Impala line as a stand-alone model (the 1958 Bel-Air "Impala" was a limited option trim level).
