Vehicle Detail
1965 ‘real’ GTO project car Synopsis This car began as a project in 1996 but became a donor car when a better host vehicle was purchased one year ago. Prefer that someone rebuild car-engine-interior-etc who appreciates what the original GTO series represents, i.e., before the ‘42’ GTO designation from 66-71. I have two other ongoing projects and need the space (plus I already have my 65 dream goat). Consequently, there is NO RESERVE other than ad costs. Good stuff Chassis and floor were sandblasted and painted and are rock solid. Firewall and other internal structures are excellent. Trunk bottom was replaced but still has some pinholes around perimeter. Engine block (389 – A 9778789) is correct vintage. Heads (670) are from 400 engine. Wieland hi-rise with Holley 650 (6498) included. Saginaw 4sp with Hearst shifter+linkage included. Original window regulators, interior panels, seats, vent window assemblies, and other misc parts are all included but need lots of work. Vehicle is rolling chassis with factory suspension, drums, 10-bolt rearend, and steering gearbox. Not so good Practically everything needs to be rebuilt/restored/replaced, but core numbers are what most purists are looking for. Almost all body panels need metal work and/or patch panels. Bumpers are included, but rear bumper has a few rust holes. I have all the original chrome/glass/hardware, but am keeping for spares. Will consider selling to new owner, but understand that they are NOT part of the package being offered in the initial bid. Its all good As usual, full payment is expected within 7 days. Buyer is responsible for picking up car plus parts. Questions are welcomed, but be forewarned that I often talk ‘GTO’ ad nausea. This is definitely a major project – believe me I’ve been there and done it. However, the personal and financial rewards are well worth the effort. For a genuine 65 GTO, every quality dollar invested should bring back two. Good luck.
