This 1939 Plymouth was purchased new in 1939 at Brewer Brothers Desoto-Plymouth dealership in Burlington, VT by a single woman. She was very proud of the car and made sure it was maintained properly. She had the car repainted sometimes in the late 50's or early 60's. She drove the car on a regular basis until 1965 when the car had a minor accident (left front fender, left running board and front bumper) The insurance company declared the car "not worth fixing". The bill for towing it to her hometown mechanic was $25.00. Since the insurance company wouldn't pay to have it fixed, she gave the car to the mechanic for the towing bill. At that point she had driven the car just over 96,000 miles in 26 years. Over the next year the mechanic replaced the bent fender and bumper, and since they were not available he had a pair of running boards reproduced. Over the next several years he had the bumpers rechromed. In all those years, he never registered it, as he wanted to finish it before doing so. Unfortunately he lost his sight about 8 years ago. When I first saw the car 3 years ago, his grandson had just run into the right rear fender with a riding lawnmower. That is when he decided to sell the car. I have since: dropped the gas tank for cleaning and sealing replaced the fuel pump cleaned the carburetor and fuel lines and done a general cleaning. This is a wonderful example of an older car not driven since the mid 60's until I aquired it. It runs and drives great and has no issues All this information has been supplied by the current owner.
