Vehicle Detail
1992 Geo Metro Convertible. This is the LSi model - top of the line with all the goodies. It has an automatic transmission, air-conditioning (works fine), an upgraded stereo and speakers. It has a couple of new tires and new trunk supports. I have been keeping this car for the last 12 years garaged as a collectible. It has only two very minor dents - one over the left rear wheel well and one on the lower right passenger door (you have to look hard to notice). There are a few scratches, mostly on the left front bumper, but far fewer than you would find for any Metro out there, currently. When I purchased it, the car had just over 70k and since I was keeping it garaged and rarely driven, I have averaged just over 2k a year and since the weather is improving, the mileage might tick-up a bit from what is listed here. I only take it out in good weather - it hasn't seen rain since 1999. From what I can tell, it has never been in an accident, nor had any paint work. The top is in excellent condition and appeared to have been replaced just before I got it. As you can see, the headlights (yes, they are original) have no cloudiness that often comes with age. As with the rest of this car, they are in nearly perfect condtion. The engine knocks/clicks with a peculliar noise - early on, I had the head rebuilt in hopes it was just a sticking hydraulic lifter, but that did not fix the problem. The dealer says that some of these cars just did that and the only way to fix the problem was to replace the engine, but having driven it for 12 years, I can attest that it doesn't affect the way the car runs or drives. The noise is mostly noticable when the engine is cold and is almost unheard once it warms-up. It has never gotten any worse and the engine returns very good MPG. My last interstate trip returned 46 miles to the gallon, so with today's gas prices (and it runs on regular), that is mileage that you can take to the bank! There is no rust on this car! If you look hard enough, I cannot guarantee you wouldn't find a microscopic spot, but since it has been garaged in a temperature controlled environment, it is like selling something that has just emerged from a time machine. I have just replaced the struts on the trunk - after nearly twenty years, they had lost their ability to hold the lid open and I got tired of it closing on my head. The new struts are very strong and I only have to lift it a few inches before they take over and raise it completely. There is almost nothing wrong with the interior - I have never cleaned it. Aside from vacuuming every year or two, I have done nothing to the inside. There is no noticable wear on the seats, no cracks in the dash and plenty of cushion in the seats. There are only two minor flaws inside - 1) the bottom of the left-center air vent has a broken pin on the bottom louver. No problem, really, it moves just fine, just not with the rest of the group. 2) is my fault - the shifter has a cover that slides up and down as you go through the gears, well last year, I accidently poked my finger through it. Neither problem is very noticable and neither affects the operation of anything, but I wanted to be thorough and as accurate as possible. Why am I selling it? I am trying to buy another house and I need the cash - simply that is all. Neither my wife, nor myself, wants to sell this car. It is an absolute blast to drive. It it is surprisingly peppy and gets lots positive comments from other drivers who haven't seen one of these before. It is REALLY cute, though more of a chick car. If it does not sell in this auction, I'm keeping it. I don't need the money that badly. With the nice weather approaching and the fuel prices set to go over $4/gal, I feel this is the right time to let it go. If I kept it, which was my original intention, it would make an outstanding antique automobile, and with only minor cosmetic attention, it would be a 1st place show winner. Eventually, since rust has taken all the others, its rarity will make it highly valuable. Payment - $500.00 via PayPal after the auction end and the rest due at pick-up. If you need the vehicle shipped, I would be willing to work with your shipper, but you must make all the arrangements and pay all the expenses. Although this vehicle has been 100% reliable for me, and I would have no problem jumping-in the car right now and driving it across the country, I cannot offer any warranty with this sale. It is offered strictly As-Is. I want to make that perfectly clear. There is a reserve, but it is reasonable. Good luck!On Mar-17-11 at 09:25:47 PDT, seller added the following information: Oh, yeah - I almost forgot to mention that I replaced the cat about 1k ago.
